I avoided trying Lyrica for the longest time because of all the side effects. But, as I have exhausted all other choices that I know of, here I am. My experience with Lyrica so far is 50/50. The warnings about not drinking with it are SERIOUS, though. I had a few sips from a (very strong) White Russian last night, and within 20 minutes, I was dizzy and super high. I felt like I was sitting on a pole, and if I moved, I was going to fall into oblivion. I don't ever want to feel that way again! It does lower my nerve pain during the day. For some reason, at night, it doesn't matter what I take or whether I am awake and active, or lying in bed-- my nerve pain is crazy bad.
Right now, my nerve pain is located in my toes, the balls of my feet, and a very faint tingle in my ankles. Before taking the Lyrica, my nerve pain was out of control, as I mentioned in the thread Confused Nerves.
For some reason, it made me almost pass out around 11:00pm, then, all of a sudden, I was wired and it's now 5:00am, and I haven't been to sleep. This is torture! Oh well. How many days have I had a full day on 2 hours of sleep? A lot of days. So, I will continue to try this new medication, and hopefully things go better than they did last night.
Oh dear Knight..not good that you learnt the hard way about the not drinking bit but good you are highlighting the fact that it really is not safe to consume alcohol and take this medication
Lets hope that you settle into this new medication and your body adjusts to it and you can continue get some relief from your nerve pain
I hope that it all settles down for you, I hate it when it's out of control, but I'm a control freak so it doesn't mix well lol do you use essential oils? Ylang ylang and lavender are brilliant to help relaxation, and chamomile tea I can look up some areas to massage your hands and work on reflexology points, just use some hand cream and massage it in, then gently rub from the base of your thumb all the way up - if it feels tender gently massage it and move on to next hand, around the base of your thumb represents your neck and spine, if it feels 'crunchy' which I have a feeling it will, gently rub the crunchy bits till it goes away! Hope this is useful and if you want to know more just holler! Bright Blessings xXx
Time is never wasted if you are wasted all the time
sherry, I am taking 75mg twice a day. It has gotten rid of the shocks and leaves me with a tingle sensation rather than the burning.
hellsbells, I use chamomile tea quite a bit, and rub peppermint, spearmint, and/or eucalyptus oils (diluted of course) on my feet and wherever my pain is.
cbdives, Gabapentin didn't work for me-- it gave me chest pains. One of the side effects of Gabapentin-- spasms in your heart (or something like that... it hurt like hell though.)

Gabapentin the burning sleepy feeling in my legs more intense, almost glowing. I remember laying on the bed thinking this is exhaustion like I'd never experienced before.

Thats bad kilg0retr0ut..to be honest this is one of the reasons i avoid nerve pain meds...we have enough issues with stamina and strength that i dont want an additional factor thrown in to deal with. My spasms and nerve pain can be pretty bad sometimes but i still avoid the meds...(for now) although i totally understand why they are needed for some people. What we all experience is relative after all....
