A very sad but inspiring story of a 12 year old girl from Newark, who apparently got shot in the face by her father causing paralysis!
NEWARK — Yesenia Parker can jot down a few words with her left hand, even though her fingers are not quite straight.
Her right hand, stiff and bent awkwardly, is still paralyzed. So is the rest of her body, relegating a 12-year-old girl to the wheelchair she dreams of rising from one day.
With practice, she hopes to walk again.
With practice, her written words will become sentences, and her sentences will become paragraphs for a story no one should have to pen.
Her father, Byaer Johnson, stands accused of shooting her in the face, six months ago in her Camden home.
"He got up, he walked towards me," Yesenia said. "He said 'shut up' "
And then …
"Pow."
The single bullet shattered and tore her spinal cord.
Shandar Parker leaves their apartment with her daughter Yesenia to pick up her younger sister Sameerah who is attending summer school. Yesenia Parker, now 12, was left paralyzed after her own father allegedly shot her during a domestic dispute in Camden. The family now lives at New Community Harmony House in Newark, a transitional housing facility for homeless families. Shandar Parker, the mother, suffers anxiety and depression. Yessenia and her siblings, ages 5 and 8, have flashbacks. The mother, pusing Yesenia in a wheel chair, walks everyday to pick up the younger kids up from day camp at nearby Camden St. Elementary School.
It's so sad and disgusting... such a shame and she has her whole life ahead of her in this condition.....how could anyone want to hurt someone in this way never mind her own father... whatever punishment he gets will never be enough
