tell my path from the injury at work is quite a long thing so bear with me ..
My name is Gianluca, I'm from Italy and, I had a car crash in 1998 that caused me an injury C5-C6 First I must start by saying that working as an engineer in the field of motorsport has always been my dream .. I had an incident in April 1998 when I missed two months at the end of high school .. I was lucky to have good teachers who have given me the opportunity to take the graduation exam while I was hospitalized at the center rehabilitation in July 1998 . In September, while I was still in hospital and I joined the faculty of engineering at the university, but I could not attend classes. I have had several problems since the summer of 1998-2002 , especially problems related to the management of neurogenic bladder and frankly I lived a little at a day trying to solve the large and small health problems related to my cervical spinal cord injury . From 1998 to 2002 I had taken only 3 exams and university and Engineering did not think about more ... In mid-2002 I had solved most of my problems ' side effects ' thanks to a correct management of the bladder through catheterization intermittent and I started to study and prepare for exams from home. The University of Parma gave me a big hand through a service called university ' mentoring at par ' that was offering other students at my side during class to write the lecture notes... For all of my university years I had at my side other students who collaborated with the university in order to write the lecture notes and write during exams in my place. All my written exams were then dictated from me by my co-workers at my side.During last year of university I had the opportunity to develop a thesis with Dallara as I explained at the beginning of the video. After I graduated, however, I did not have the immediate chance of finding a job and I decided to participate in a research project lasting one year of collaboration between the university and the Dallara. After this year I was hired by Dallara where I work since 2010. As explained in the video I work two days in Dallara and three days from home in network connection with my colleagues in the company!
Thankyou for sharing your experience of getting through University and into work and the problems you were faced with glm79.
How did your bladder issues resolve? This will be of interest to many members and maybe you can post about this on the bladder and bowel section. Any experience that can be shared on bladder management will be great
Read your story, great to know that you aspire to achieve. keep up the good work. As for me i am a lecturer in a building and construction institute 4 years into injury, Most Lay people usually think about the hard laborious work however here too are great possibilities especially in the fields of design, specifications BOQs tendering documentation especially with the use of ACAD software and digital knowledge. After 20 years being a hands on contractor I now know that this type of design work is the most difficult, most in demand and the most fulfilling. One door closes 10 open a guess.
Thanks again for sharing glm79! I'm glad that you were able to pursue the career you've always wanted to do and that your health complications have become a bit better.
