I am going on vacation to my hometown on May 10 until May 16. I am very nervous about it. Where will I do my bowel program? Will my Explorer make the trip without any issues? Is the hotel we'll be staying at completely accessible-- handrails and all? This is a big deal for me. Last year, the furthest I went away from home was a camping trip for 2 days an hour away. I only stayed 2 nights, and it was a blast, but I knew if s*** hit the fan, I only had an hour drive home. Now I will be 12 hours away from home, and I'm very nervous. I will have a Foley catheter in for the duration to make my vacation more enjoyable instead of running to the bathroom all the time! My dad will be with me, so I suppose I should calm down, but I can't. I'm super nervous and anxious. Prior to my accident, the only thing I would worry about was money and my vehicle. Now I have all my body issues to worry about also.
I'm also nervous about all my old friends' reactions. What will they say? Will I be bombarded with questions?
Knight firstly...call the hotel and discuss the accessibility of the room. Last year when i travelled i also took with me a portable handrail but if you have booked an accessible room then call and ask.
Where do you do your bowel routine now? If its a toilet then plan your trip and find out where all the facilities are along your journey. There is an app you can put on your phone which can tell you where the nearest accessible facility is
Also be sure you know the nearest doctors contact number from where you will be staying.
Planning will ease your anxiety and lastly...ive watched your vids..i have every confidence you will think of the right thing to say in reply to any questions.
Enjoy yourself and try not to stress too much..im sure you will have an amazing time!
Hi Knight, I can give you a bit of advice if you want. First of all I would get the car serviced, then ring around and find a hotel with disabled accessibility. We stayed in a hotel last year that was perfect for me. I think the Foley Catheter is a great idea. As for seeing old friends I can't advise on what to do except just be you. I hope you have a great trip and enjoy and don't stress too much, just do it and you will have a ball.
Lαrα & Butiki, thanks guys. Those links will be helpful, and I will make sure the hotel we stay at has handrails. My vehicle has one more trip to the mechanic and she'll be ready.
I've decided not to go since I am in a ton of pain and I still owe my mechanic a ton of money, so I don't think it's fair to him to go. Also, I have too much anxiety right now to deal with everyone asking me questions about my accident. I broke down crying a couple days ago just out of nowhere because of it. It's just better for my physical and mental health to postpone my vacation until after my surgery.
Also, I am waiting until huckleberry season so we can bring back huckleberries so my boyfriend's dad can make wine
