The former test driver Sam Schmidt became paralyzed from the chest down whist test driving. Thanks to the technology Arrow Electronics and several other firms he will test drive a hand free Corvette later this month.
Using a 2014 Chevy Corvette Stingray, engineers from Arrow Electronics and other firms had to integrate software controls, GPS sensors and special steering inputs from two sources — a bite sensor that Schmidt will use for braking, and four infrared cameras mounted on a hat that will let Schmidt steer by tilting his head and accelerate.
To ensure his safety on the track, the Stingray will have a GPS bumper that keeps it a minimum of 1.5 meters from the edge of the track, leaving Schmidt with 10 meters of clearance in the center. If something goes wrong, engineers will be able to take over the car remotely
Well with cars that can park for you and those GPS thingies that know when a car two cars in front of you is braking, well I imagine that it shouldn't be that long before we just sit and type in our destination. Don't know if I would feel very secure. At least not at the beginning.
Hmmm well i think its ok this one because someone else can take over control of the car. Its not going to be possible out on the road to do this though.
Yeah definitely not going to be out on public roads anytime soon but I was worried about his own safety! It's good that he'll have someone with him that can take control of the vehicle if anything went wrong.

Im not sure that the driver will have someone with them DJ..I think the article was indicating that engineers have remote control access of need be but i wonder if that is from a central position and not actually in the car?

Thankyou for sharing Millard..Im not really a car person. In fact im very techno ignorant but i do know when something looks smart...and when i like something..
Not a very knowledgeable perspective really is it lol
