I have my worst spinal cord lesion at L3. Posture is a critical issue for me. Since I got a well-fitting wheelchair, one of the primary benefits has been that I know I will have proper back support wherever I go! This goes far in reducing lower back pain.
jeff1967, great that you are looking to exercise regularly! But I would strongly advise asking your doctor for a few PT sessions to set up a program that will strengthen your core without doing further damage.

Yes I was wondering about that wavewolf and will definitely talk with them first. I would hate to make things worse than they already are LOL.
I am also going to start searching for an office chair for work. Mine is a touch worn out and my posture just plain sucks to be honest. I know my employer would purchase one for me but I am sure to get something that is good for me will be kind of pricey and I don't want to put that off on them.

Lara, this is me. What you said. Good info, now I know I am not crazy....... yet. Almost every night it's the same. I lay in bed struggling to fall asleep. Up at 1:30 am until I am exhausted........usually about 3. It helps some to use a neck billow that fastenson my neck and another harder neck pillow placed under the small of my back. My facets are almost all atrophied.

Hi. A question for anyone who has had a lower L1 compression fracture.i got it in a car accident. I was in hospital for a week. Scans said it was a stable fracture . No surgery required. Have to wear a back brace for 12 weeks. Am now in week 4. The last 4 mornings about 5am I Woke with a lot of pain. The pain till now has been fine but now in the mornings I have to get up, take painkillers. It's a pain that is in my back but feels like it comes around to the front and sides not unlike stomach cramps. I guess my question is does this type of fracture get worse before it gets better. I feel more sore now than I did 3 weeks ago.Maybe they are back spasms . I had a health back before the accident. The fracture clinic I was at were quite vague with their info Thanks
Hi Norman and welcome to the forum. I would suggest either going straight back to your Dr or straight to the emergency room. I know from experience that this is nothing to mess with, go have it checked as soon as possible. This may be something that has gone from bad to worse, you just never know. But please go get checked out asap.

norman, I think TJ is right. Did they review the MRI with you? I'd call you doctor to get a clearer idea of what procedures were done. Is this a specialist or GP? If possible I'd ask for a new MRI, just to be sure your injury is stable.
I suspect you have not yet had go to doctors often. is that correct? If the people you saw were vague it is up to you to get them to be specific. Go back- insist they explain and answer all your questions. If you can, take a friend. It is difficult to insist professional people educate us when we feel ignorant about something.
Listen to the other posters- no, your injury should NOT feel worse. Something may have shifted in your back to make things actually worse than they were. The fracture clinic may not be able to identify what it is, which is why others suggest an MRI. Did your initial treatment do one for you? They may have done nothing more than x-ray and that will not tell you enough about your injury.
For the first time in your life you have a problem with your back. hard as this is to accept, it means you will need to be thoughtful for the rest of your life, doing things to protect and strengthen it. Yes, a simple fracture heals, but the healing creates enlargement in the vertebra that then put unbalanced pressure on the discs, etc, etc. Learn all you can and find a doctor who answers your questions well, explains everything, and doesn't brush off your pain. THINGS HURT WHEN SOMETHING IS WRONG! Your own instincts are good about this.
Hi. Thanks for yere comments. I had ( during my week in hospital), a cat scan, an MRI, and x rays. Everything seemed ok for 2 weeks after discharge from hospital. The morning pains spasms have only occurred since 5 days ago. I was at a fracture clinic a week ago and had an X-ray done there also. The doc said it was early days but these pains had not started yet. I'll probably contact them after Easter
