One of our members mentioned this in a recent discussion and i think it is most certainly worth exploring. Exchanging homes for holidays seems such a logical and cost effective way to holiday and have an accessible place to stay. As with everything possible.....potential problems need to be looked into closely and weighed up against the advantages.
This could work out very well though..we have so many members worldwide that it would be a great solution to holidaying abroad. We have a 'family' holiday home in Spain and we have a rule that each person who stays there will pay for a professional cleaner to come for 2 hours cleaning in the apartment once each member of the family have left. This way it is spotlessly clean for the next person. This isnt costly at all so all there is to pay for is the flight and travel insurance.
So for example if someone stayed in my home i could give them lots of local visitor places information that are accessible..inform them of the best eating places and local travel..etc!
My home is accessible for a chair user but for a paraplegic.. i am planning to make it more accessible eventually for friends to stay who are higher level...so i can invite anyone over for stays.
Please take a look and read the advices and please put your thoughts and comments. I think as a forum we could be a platform for communication but would not take any liability or responsibility.
This sounds like a good idea. It'd be nice to go somewhere and have an accessible location ready for you and have another members show you around the area! Wouldn't have to worry about searching for what stores are accessible
The only room I need to finish before my house can be considered fully accessible is to change the bathroom. The kitchen is not ADA compliant yet but it is usable in a wheelchair. I need to change the sink to make it fully accessible. The bathroom needs a total overhaul.
That sounds like a great idea! My apartment is set up completely for paraplegics-- automatic doors into the building, handrails in the bathroom, shower bench, soon-to-come roll-in shower, and low counters in the kitchen. I'm not sure anyone would want to holiday here though! Lol.
Im asking cause my wife and I are coming to Florida soon Well you dont have to give us a place to stay (unless if you insist haha), otherwise I am more interested in other tips and suggestions, what to see, where to go,... ?
I have seen the thread about Disney and Universal, what else???

I have a fully acessible home in Appleton, WI USA including ramp into the house through attached garage, kitchen I can use and I'm a C6-7 complete quad, roll-in shower in the master bath, king size bed and 19" height easy to transfer, hardwood floors, DirecTV, and quiet neighborhood. We have plenty here especially if you like to drink. Plenty of bars on the main drag just minutes away. Performing Arts Center, Brewers A ball baseball club Wisconsin Timberrattlers who play at a very accessible beautiful ball park, can tour the home of the Green Bay Packers and hall of fame 30 mins away, nice zoo 40 mins away a good way to get 3 hours of moderate excersize. Sidewalks throughout neighborhood to go for rolls, nearby parks. Appleton offers fishing, boating, and a large mall. It's cold now and will be for the next 3-4 months but if you've never been here it's still something new. My 21yr old daughter still lives at home and would probably stay back to care for the cats (3) and our dog.
