It just thrills me to read what you all are doing! Pursuing our passions is key to life. My energy is so limited, as well as mobility, that I am considering selling my camping gear and I know I have to sell my kayaks. I still dream of getting out on the water though, and Europedude got me hyped upwatching handi-wakeboard video!
There's one company that I know of that has made some modifications to their kayaks so those with disabilities can enjoy using them. HobiCat (spelling?) has come up with a conversion that allows you to pedal instead of rowing. The setup is like the handcycle bike only it works a couple of paddles that are under the kayak. I'll see if I can find the link and post it.
Yes, I have seen those foot-paddled kayaks! I am able to paddle with my arms just fine, although sitting position would probably do a number on my skin. The real issue for me is B&B management--need to be near facilities too frequently, and cannot imagine how absorbent materials would hold up if I had to roll. I have thought about this for hours to try to make it work. As I get worse with my disease, energy is so lacking that even what I can do, I don't., because I need the energy for basic ADLs.
Don't feel so bad Wavewolf there are days I wonder where I'll find the energy to do the things I want to. I just wish the weather would settle down and then I'd head down to the Maumee River and see if I can catch some catfish and if nothing is biting grab my camera pray I don't drop it and get some great photos of the wildlife and the sun setting on the river.
Talk to your doctor about the B& B they can help or as I did just experiment until you find something that works. They did suggest that I eat and drink the same things at the same times each day and it works.
Sunfish and Bluegills, some of the best eating fish out there. Palm size, very nice!
I'm fortunate enough to live near Lake Erie where most consider walleye to be the number one fish for eating. Everyone seems to forget that the big lake has many Yellow Perch that can be caught year round, one just needs to know where to find them. Nothing like deep fried perch though I have to agree that Bluegills are very good to eat.

Ok, Perch, Walleye, Brooktrout, even Pike are very tasty. My Grandma used to cook them best. I think it was just floor and butter. Sounds like you better leave a few fish for DJ.

Nice to have options of fishing or photos! The summer is still young... You made my mouth water talking about walleye and yellow perch--I used to live near Lake Erie and catch those!
My doctors have not been able to offer any real ideas to improve my B&B, although people on this forum have! Having a regular schedule and diet definitely improves things. I still have to manage things too often to be out on the water--too many interruptions and times-out for my former paddling buddies.
I love fishing and camping! I went camping a few weeks ago, but my brother's camper is not very CES friendly. My parents used to have one that was better for me, but it burned down. Boo!! I haven't done much hunting since my injury (no way I'm getting in a deer stand now!), but I've done lots of target practice. I would like to try archery too.
Personally, i couldnt go hunting...and i would struggle to fish too. I cant bear to hurt or kill anything...
I have a pond on some land i own and one year we had a crazy amount of rain, so much so that the pond overflowed and the fish came out over the sides. We have some pretty big carp and roach...and i didnt want them to die...I took a friend with me and asked him to blow air into the fish that looked like they were dying and rub their tummy's...It worked.they all survived except for one.

Hey cesamyseed, sorry to hear about the camper! Just out of curiosity, what kinda camper was it and how was it better than your brothers camper?

DJ the one that burned was a Crown Marquis King of the Road fifth wheel. My brother's is a Jayco travel trailer, which is better in that it does not have any steps inside like a fifth wheel, but that is probably its only "pro". The fifth wheel had steps up to the bathroom and bedroom, but it had a pull bar all the way up, so I was able to get up them, and the bathroom was much bigger than in my brother's. It had more slide-outs, so it was a lot bigger, and the floor plan was just easier to navigate - I always had something to hold onto if I needed to, and it had real furniture that was easier to get up from. The entry was less scary too. I miss it LOL
Oh ok I see now yeah, I can imagine that the more space in the crown marquis king made a big difference! Are you guys planning to buy another one in the future?
