Just when I thought it couldn't possibly get any worse.........it does! I had an MRI of my cervical & thoracic done this week. I've been having severe headaches & numbness & pain in my arms & hands, along with spasms in my neck & upper back. When the results came in the next day, yesterday, my doc immediately suspended my twice weekly PT sessions. I have cervical nerve root & cord compression, he's very nervous about it & I have to see a neurosurgeon soon. Does it EVER end??? I've had 14 surgeries, starting in 1986. The last one, last year, left me a paraplegic. The level affected now was also operated on last year. So now I have to find a new surgeon & see what unfolds.
Sorry t hear that. Looks like you need to surgeon that is up on the newest skills. Look into places like the hospitals that are run by universities. They have the best of the best teaching our doctors of the future. They are constantly trying new procedures that are less invasive and have less healing time required. Unfortunately for some of us it will keep getting worse as we age.
Oh my, that doesn't sound good at all anita. I'm sorry to hear that
Like truwrecks has mentioned, I hope you find a good neurosurgeon who will put an end to all this. Take it easy for the time being to make sure the problems don't worsen!
Thanks, everyone, for your support. It's all so discouraging. I did so much research to find my last surgeon & hospital, & still came out with disaster results. My husband & I were both nurses, so we know what to look for in surgeons & hospitals. ........Last week all I was worried about was if I would ever get any trunk control back, so I could sit up without holding on for dear life. Now.....I have to worry about being able to just breathe on my own, &/or having the use of my arms & hands. I'm normally an upbeat person, but this is depressing--& scary. Again, -- Thank You So Much -- the support & information I have received from this support group is extraordinary.

anita, I'll add my voice to your cheering section! Must be very hard to face this new problem. Will be praying for you to find the best surgeon, and that this surgery will be successful in preserving what function you have, fixing the compression issue causing new problem, and maybe helping with pain and stability in general.
