Hi everyone, Sorry I have not been around as much I would like to have been. The reason is because the back pain had just become unbearable. I think I posted last about a move to a Bungalow because I was struggling with the stairs. Anyways a quick back track. most know I have fibromyalgia. 15years ago I started to need a w/chair to get around when out side. it would be walk a little sit a little walk a little you get the picture. When I kept asking the doctor why could I not walk he always said it was due to my fibro.
Well things had progressed so quickly since we moved pain and movement wise I am almost bed bound most days which I have always worked hard against. But some days the sitting is more painful than the standing.
So 6 weeks ago I finally changed my Doctor to one where I now live. I told them about how bad my back was blah blah they had no hesitation about refering me to a specialist. I honestly thought nothing would show up when he sent me just for a normal x ray. Imagine mine and hubby's horror when we saw the images of my lower spine it looked almost fused with OA.
I now have to go get an MRI done and go back in a few weeks when he as all the info to see what my options are. I just cried all the way home 15 wasted pain filled years because of a doctors lack of understanding. The back Doctor told me right out even before an x ray my symptoms sounded very much like a stenosis and been in a w/chair for so long would not have helped with OA.
Maybe when I started with the signs of the stenosis people of that age was not high on the list to get that kind of back trouble. I have since found it is more usual in folks in their 50/60s That is still no excuse to not get it checked over. Just 6 months ago I asked the Old GP can I not have an MRI done as it is getting bad. He said you have to see a specialist for that. Well yes my back Doc said why did he not send you to us then ??? I don't know where I go from here as thoughts of operations even pain injection fill me with absolute Fear.
If an operation is your only option I'd probably do it if I were you. Before my accident the whole thought of an operation/surgery was terrifying but after having one myself, I'm still alive and healthy so that's what matters. The last thing you'd want is for your condition to worsen.
Hey mo...let us know how the MRI goes. Its important you get one done sooner than later.....Get some advice on this and how to stay active in the meantime
Apologies on missing your birthday..here is your cake.... .
Awww thank you for you advice and the Birthday wishes I could just eat that cake LOL Ok so now I have a gyno problem they so need to take a biopsy and i am so scared of been put to sleep. Sorry to hear about this Mo.
Happy Birthday!
Ask for oral valium and take it about 45 minutes before the epidural. You will thank me for that suggestion later.
As far as surgery goes, I didn't want that option in 2009 but it was my best option based on the findings during surgery. The surgeon found scar tissue was effectively strangling my lower spinal cord. 5 hours later I had MUCH less back pain and MUCH more mobility. Just like everything else surgery has risks. Some risks are worth it if the conditions are right.
