Does anyone have any experience with the drug Resotran? It has been approved for use in Canada for females to increase peristalsis. It seems to be helping.
Today I start week two on this drug and have noticed that over the past few days my bladder has gone crazy. Normally, I in-out self-catheter 5 times a day and rarely had leakage in between. Of course, if I did not cath in the middle of the night, I would be too full in the morning and would be wetting my pad. I also could void a bit on my own but only if my bladder was quite full (more than 500 ml). Over the past three days, I can pee anytime I go near the toilet. I can void a good amount when I try to push and my catheter output amounts of course are very low. Progressively worsening over the past three days, I wet myself if I move the wrong way. I had to change my pads many times today. I did a lot of reading today but could not find anything identifying bladder incontinence as a side effect of this drug.
Hey durdle, more frequent muscle contractions in the digestive track will lead to more pressure & contraction in the bladder. Do you take any bladder spasm relaxants such as Oxybutynin/Ditropan?
Thanks for your response. Up til now, I have never needed anything else. I was able to control bladder except when super full and then I overflowed. Perhaps I need to investigate oxybutynin and ditto pan. Am wondering something else...my bowel output really slowed down the past couple days and now just got moving again this evening. Any chance that could be putting extra pressure on my bladder? (That hasn't happened before either but I am in new territory with this new drug and grabbing at straws for an answer that doesn't mean something else is going wrong)

No problem! Yes, it's very possible that the increase in bowel activity is causing increase in bladder activity. The only thing with Oxybutynin/Ditropan is that it relaxes the bladder and possibly effects the bowel. It may not apply to everyone but one of the side effects are constipation so although it will help with the leaking, it'll contradict what you're trying to do with the Risotran.

I was prescribed this drug and decided not to use it.
FYI: I started Resotran on Sat, Sept8. I had no side effects until Monday, when my bladder got reactive and I felt like I had to go every hour. I went to Jannsen website, [pharmaceutical for Resotran] and found a less common side effect is Bladder and Urinary Disorder.Wondering if ANYONE else has had a similar problem? I had to stop Resotran on Wed....shame, it was helping!! This post was copied from the address below: www.ibsgroup.org/forums/topic/156883-side-effects-of-resotran/ I hope this is some help. Cheers
Thanks everyone for your responses. Lara--yes I have read that document and everything else I could find. Am anxious to hear any feedback from your mom about her experience with this drug.

She is calling by today..il talk to her
My ma came and i got it a little mixed up, well more than mixed up because it isnt my mom who takes it, its her friend who she is asking on my behalf about it. Sorry for the mix up and for the slow reply durdle
Hi Durdle I'm new to this forum and just read your post. I used resotran on and off for about a year. I had similar experiences as previous posts. It definitely caused more frequent bladder contractions. I am a reluctant ditropan 5mg twice daily user and the resotran basically won the fight. Resotran definitely helped with the bowel albeit temporary as my bowel continued to deteriorate and become resistant to pharmaceuticals. Hope you found the info you needed. Richard
Hi DJ Good to find this forum. Actually I found out about Inspired at Lyndhurst. Was there last month. I didn't do my post injury rehab there though. Went to Hamilton back in 1980. Love the forum. I will try visit regularly. I could share some insights of past 35 years.
