This has always bemused...can you believe that this is the age of technology....
We can fly to other planets within the universe... Medical science can successfully transplant major body organs from one person to another Solar powered energy...wifi....i phones......genetic engineering We can clone humans even!!...
and yet, .....wait for it.........(drum rolls) ..........
This is....
Really?
Research is looking at measuring pain with brain scans in the future...but i wonder how many people suffer with undiagnosed conditions because their doctor cant make a clear assessment on their pain level.....or How many people have inadequate pain management for the same reason....
It's rediculous indeed. So much time and money is spent on pointless things when it could easily be spent on much better things but we are humans after all...

when I get asked, it's tough to describe because I don't know if they want me to describe it as if they had to feel it, or how I deal with it 2 years post-SCI. A 10 on the pain scale for a person with no disability is a 4 for me. When I go back and (try to) remember how things felt before, it's like I'm looking outside in at someone else's memories, someone else's life. Pain is so difficult to describe, much less scale it from 1-10 when we deal with such complex types of pain on a daily basis.

I have never known how to describe it Knight because to be honest its all relative...how can that be measured?

exactly. it's so difficult to pinpoint, and when they ask me, I don't know whether to tell them about my nerve pain, backache, spasm pain, or hypersensitivity! we need a better way to assess pain.
my pain assessment today: nerve pain - 1 back pain - youdontevenwannaknowicantevenmove (that's way above a 10- I'm not even on the number scale anymore.)

How about switching to the McGill Pain Index ? At least those idiots gave you a myriad of adjectives to choose from.
