Personally, my electric heating blanket is my most wonderful winter accessory, even though it has a warning right on it that says, "Do not use on infants, invalids, paraplegics, quadriplegics..."
Most of the time, I just use it as an extra blanket, and it's not even plugged in, but when winter here actually sets in, it gets plugged in and is on the low setting mostly. It has a 2-hour automatic shut-off, but I generally only use it while awake. My legs rarely ever warm up, and it starts a bone-crushing nerve pain when they get too cold, or too warm for that matter.
I know there is some controversy over using electical blankets, even between able-bodied people, but, in my opinion, they are in my top 20 of the best inventions ever.
What are your thoughts?
P.S. It is -3°C (29°F) here, and we have already had a couple mini snow flurries. Also, I think I am sick.
Knight,I personally wouldnt use one or recommend one...Our nerves are so messed up that increase in heat from a direct source could cause havoc. What if it over heats or malfunctions? I would rather have full control of what im directing on my skin...besides my feet and lower legs would surely feel like im combusting!
On the other hand i know we all do things that arent 'recommended'....but if you have to use it can you put a different blanket against your skin and then the electric on on top of that?
I've never used one before but I have heard good things about them and bad things. As nice as it would feel to be warm when you're feeling cold, I'd use a regular blanket or two so I don't risk burning myself. I've become paranoid about hurting my self since I was injured so I try to avoid things that could get me hurt... Most of the time.

it's never directly against my skin, and I'm mostly awake when I'm using it, so I pay attention to my legs & the temp.

It is a wonder that you don't have one for Winter in the desert country Butiki, I guess that image has stayed with you ay? When we lived in Sth Aust we used an electric blanket to warm the bed before we got in, and we later slept in a heated water bed which stayed on all Winter and I was lucky enough not to have any issues, we did always have a woollen overlay and then the bottom sheet between us and any heat source.
We don't have any need for electric blankets etc here in Qld.

Coming from Goulburn NSW, petelanddownunder, we had electric blankets as kids, but I've never liked them, and isn't that what wives are for ???

"since I was injured so I try to avoid things that could get me hurt..” Not too ironic here, eh?

Lol well I figured it can't get much worse than this but you never know what could happen so I'm just trying to avoid any more possible craziness down the road.
