Besides carrying B&B supplies, I carry what I would normally have carried in my handbag. But in the chair I do not feel safe hanging my handbag off the back, and it is painful to sit things in my lap for more than a brief period. So I am looking for under-seat options, while I will still probably throw a small backpack on the seat back for lightweight things that don't change COG much. Here are some ideas I am considering:
www.activedogs.com/product/2124/wheelchair-bag-under-seat/ I have purchased from this company before, and their products are highest quality and customer service is exceptional. This bag will fit perfectly in front under seat without hitting my legs, and water bottle would be balanced in the middle. Perfect size to hold personal stuff, and it easily unhooks for carrying with, or refilling supplies. I may hang a much smaller bag (nothing special) behind it, on the grab bar below seat, to hold a few tools at times when I will be out and not have access to help.
advantagebag.com/wheelchair_underseat_catchalls.htm WH190-2 could be placed underneath the bag from activedogs and my little toolbag, to stuff my coat and other bulky items. I'd have to hang it low, and lift the front bags to access stuff--not really a problem if mainly to stash coat, etc. I like the side guards on this version. Would not be removed from chair, and not add weight for loading. Best prices on Advantage bags at their site. Maybe too much to add this...can stuff coat in backpack.
Has anyone seen the Tilite Catchall? They list it, but no description or image. VERY expensive for net catchall...
Another handy little bag, just about right for handbag items, is advantagebag.com/crutch_bags.htm, C140; expensive for what it is!
I have a pouch under the front of my chair which I got as an option straight from TiLite. It looks like the one in your first link expect more compact and discreet. I actually keep my wallet in my school bag which is behind my chair, along with my iPad & laptop. Yeah it's risky but I'm honestly not afraid of getting robbed, I just can't see in happening.
I carry different types of little purses under my seat, right behind my legs. I still have a thing for cute purses, and just adapt them to work a bit differently now.
My dentist yelled at me for carrying my groceries with my teeth. I don't see her anymore for reasons much worse than that.
I seem to need to carry a lot, especially if going away for several hours. Have to have a change of clothes below waist, and plenty of B&B supplies. Then, want a place to stash my jacket when I go indoors. Also need a safe and accessible spot for wallet and phone. Sometimes I want to carry my lunch with me, and of course, water.
Under-seat combined with small backpack seems to be the way to go. Knight, if you find someone who will give you a truly lovely gift, you can get a custom leather purse that is perfect for chair at ribotas.nl. Site is in Dutch, use Google Translate for reasonably clear translation. Sometime please post your under-seat purse collection!!!! I will post photos of my new chair and the storage solutions in a few months when they become reality!
That sounds great wavewolf, I'd love to see what it looks like!
First I have to see what funding is offered! Guy at DME was all over it while I was ordering, now hearing nothing and he is not answering email. Mmmmmmm...
I've adapted a crossover bag to hang on the back of my chair on the backrest brackets. I found the Tilite bag under the seat difficult and very u lady like. I'm still in search of the best option though. Having to carry catheters etc around is annoying. And I never leave home without my water bottle.
kjp77 I like my TiLite bag under the seat but I can't access it either. I normally get others to take things in & out. You should post a picture of the bag you've adapted!
