DJ, kisch5, I am surprised at the feeling of cold in the hips, unless there is an environmental explanation. DJ, when you say you feel cold all over when your hips are cold, that does make sense to me. When stressed by cold environment, our bodies will conserve heat in the torso for survival. So extremities may be cold, while not feeling cold in general. For me, I do not perceive body temperature normally due to sarcoid lesion in the hypothalamus, the area of brain which regulates body temperature. So I may be hypothermic and not realize it, and circulation shutting down is a survival mechanism, accounting for cold feet and some discoloration. Before paralysis, I moved around so much more and was never cold. And I wore my insulated work boots indoors, so my feet were toasty even if I was sedentary. Now, I am wearing athletic shoes with my AFOs, and they offer no warmth. I started wearing Neos overshoes indoors to see if this will keep my feet warmer, and it seems to be helping. When I am outdoors, I am moving and I feel comfortably warm in winter and my feet are warm when I get inside. So movement and circulation are surely factors for me.
Lately I've been having ice cold feet also, something not previously an issue. But my house is pretty cold, 52F/11C, so maybe it's just that. Color in legs is not the greatest either. Need to get checked on circulation...
When mine get really really cold, they turn kinda blue! It freaks me out, but a few minutes under a warm blanket, and the color's back. I've been having trouble regulating temperature in my body this past week. I have no idea why! Three days ago, it was only 10 degrees F outside, and I wanted to be in a bikini because I was overheating! This has been going on for 4 days now, with one day in between where I couldn't warm up if I tried. Something is out of whack in my body, and I don't know what.

Thanks! I do think it is the cold that is making my feet cold and motley. When I get out from under my cozy covers in the morning, my legs have normal color. Is is possible you have issue in brain, particularly hypothalamus? That is center of temperature regulation for the body. Mine has sarcoid lesion, and what you described with overheating and then total chills is what I regularly experience. I have to dress by checking outside temperature, not by feel.

I have no idea what is going on, but it seems to have calmed. I also dress for the weather, and not how I feel. My mom and I blamed hormones on it. You know the story: women are sensitive to other women's hormones.
I'm soooooooooooo glad I don't live in a cold country, my feet suffer badly enough here in our very mild winters compared to what you guys have to go through.
My legs have been freezing, but my right foot and toes have been burning so badly! My doctor says my last chance to get any relief is to try the Medtronic SCS.

Same here Knight, my toes feel like they're on fire all the time now!

I wonder if the cold just makes the burning worse? I know movement and walking make the nerve pain worse for me, and it's really bad if it gets below zero or if it's really windy.

I've been trying to figure out why it worsens some days but I've got nothing. That could be related but for me it's the same whether my legs are cold or warm.
I've come to think of it as magic internal air conditioning. But yea, our nerves are fuct. There's not much you can do about it other than change your perspective, and move to South Florida:)
The burning in my feet definitely worsens when the temperature rises or at night. The feet are a problem are because its the furthest extremity from the spinal cord.
