I wonder if this has anything to do with the paralympics all? Or is it just a sign of the times and attitudues, lack of respect/consideration and violent crime are simply on the increase?
Either way, its sad... I would hope that the paralympics showed the AB world a more positive view on disability in general and show that we are actually more 'able' than imaginable.
I don't see how hosting paralympics in a certain part of the world would make a significant difference in the attitude towards people with disabilities. These games are just entertainment to most people. They watch it one day and forget about it by the next week.
Think about how long racism, sexism, and other 'isms' have taken to reach where they are today. If people are expecting progress after one event then they might as well water their flowers and wait n watch them grow.

I think that some disable activist groups will be happy that disabled are being treated same as the AB's? An odd perception but maybe gimps are not being seen as so defenceless and pitiful?
Children's attitudes toward people with disabilities improve when kids have more contact with them, according to a new study.
Greater exposure to people with disabilities could help reduce discrimination and prevent the low self-esteem and depression that can result, the findings suggest.
