The fact of the matter is that, we have no choice in where we are born or in being Spinal Cord Injured. Its also a fact that people with Spinal Cord Injury are dying prematurely because of a severe lack of medical intervention.
Does that mean we should be thankful for where we are born, yes maybe but that sure dosent mean that we don't expect to be treated the best possible way and given the best possible treatment.
All people with SCI should receive excellent treatment, our care providers have a duty of Care and we deserve to have this. My government wont get a thankyou from me, ive paid my dues and always worked and so have my family so....
Don't forget, we are here to support each other guys!

I'll be long dead by then. I said you sound like a drug seeker, and you do. This was a thread about some pretty cool braces that will help many. Not to vent your woes on the system. There is a thread for that somewhere.
acrobatinmydreams, if jeff1967 has bulging discs at L4/5 he could have sciatic pain, its highly possible in fact but it could or couldnt be, we don't really know for sure.

kilg0retr0ut,Perhaps the reason for your pressure sores is the type of foot plate? But you seem to know a whole lot more than anyone else here. A rigid footplate will cause pressure sores. Of course, that is exactly the reason that I could not utilize the phatbraces. I didn't say they weren't cool but that they just didn't work for me.
My new orthotist called on Friday and my copayment for the same braces that I have is going to be $242.00. The company is BPM Fabrications and my current braces which have lasted 4 years were made by them. bpmfabrications.wix.com/home
Sorry I got off topic Lαrα. I was speaking with Jeff regarding his injury not anyone else as his is very similar to mine. You are absolutely right. It very well could be sciatica. We all deserve the best care possible. This was my first thread here. Some support kilg0retr0ut, is giving. Why snarky comments like the half full glass on a message board where you know nothing about the person making the comment? Its easy to be positive behind a screen right?
Lyrica, I will remind you is a controlled substance too. You have no right to say anything to me PERIOD about drug seeking. I am seeking to have a quality of life just like everyone else is. I am exploring all the options. If I can help one person not to make a wrong decision then I will give my opinion whether you like it or not kilg0retr0ut, Sorry if my posts were not up to your standards. I noticed you didn't jump on Jeff when he commented about United Healthcare and his same frustrations. No you thought you could bully me because I use Medicare and depend on the government for my care. Then you thought you would tell me how lucky I am to have been born here. Are you insinuating Canada or any other country provides substandard care because that is what it seems????
BTW...no one dies from Cauda Equina Syndrome unless you take your own life or die from infection from not taking proper care of a pressure sore.
acrobatinmydreams,i want to tell you that your posts are extremely useful and informative. kilg0retr0ut,is a miserable devil sometimes but we ignore him, well i do lol
I agree with you that everyone needs to do what they need to, so they get relief...you sure don't have to explain why to anyone....
I hope you hang around here as I would hate to see you go. I can summarize the majority of my posts, My body is all screwed up, bulging discs, arthritis, sciatica, and arachnoiditis, United Healthcare has been a pain in my a$$ when it came to my Phat Braces (and most everything else) and I personally feel the Phat Braces are the coolest ones made. I do understand that they will not work for everyone but I would love to see someone come up with a way to adapt them for everyone.
As I said earlier, we are all suffering in ways that everyone else cannot even imagine. We all get frustrated (ask my wife how much I do) and have to vent. I think this is a good place to do that because we all do understand what each other is going through. Many of you have helped me mentally and you don't even know it. Many of you have helped me go into my doctors a little more educated than I was before. I cannot thank you all enough.

I am done here.
Your going to turn anything I say around so you can be a victim. Just a heads up. If you only want to talk to one person PM. them. Your posts would be up to my standards if they were honest. The reason I support Jeff is that I believe he is. My snarky comment were because all your whining was hurting my eyes. Our systems provides for those that who need help, I'm sorry that help isn't up to your standards. You should be grateful, you and I both, if we were born in many third world countries we'd be dead. Canada has a pretty good health care from what I've seen, how about Uganda. Your not going to get what I'm saying, and to your defense, not everyone does. I was comparing your frustrations to those I see in my future. So you can babble on, or as in a few cases with Lara, we can drop it, and agree were not going to agree on this. I was asked to play nice, I will. Back to topic.
kilg0retr0ut, I asked if you would drop it, I didnt ask you to post in the same mood again and then drop it, did I? You made your point before so if you add any more negative comments, il remove them and put you in time out for being naughty!
I specifically asked if the foot plate on the Phatbraces could be modified and they said no. So that is why I made that comment that the manufacturer was resistant to modifications. The orthotist that I am now dealing with said they had others ask if parts of the Phatbraces could be modified and the practice did not want to do any modifications. It is like off the shelf braces...if you can wear them, Great. But if you can't, then it is a waste of time and resources to pursue them. An off the shelf is what caused my pressure sore/osteomyelitis to start with.
I was in plastic ill-fitted AFO's for so many years that my feet permanently turn outward. It is documented in one of my records that they casted me that way for my first braces to prevent falling/tripping over my toes. The problem is that for the next 15 years the rehabilitation hospital where I did my rehab kept casting the same way even after my foot was deformed from the surgery. Your gait is better than mine in the videos so I have wonder if my feet being manipulated like that are at least part of the problem?
It wasn't until 2004 that I found carbon fiber and carbon composites and realized that plastic was seriously overrated. One set of braces that I got while working was never approved by United. I argued like you have had to do and they ended up billing my secondary Medicare which did pay. Every time you need something you have to fill out a form for the insurance that there is no other insurance involved and no pre-existing condition (pre healthcare laws) so it gets tedious to get what you need especially if that need is all that keeps you working like my braces did. There was little pre-authorization back then so I always got the equipment that I needed and argued later.
It is entirely different now to argue that you need equipment or care while doing without like Wavewolf is for her chair. I am involved in a civil rights advocacy organization based in Denver and there are countless numbers of disabled people that have equipment needs because of the recent change in Medicare law dealing with Durable Medical Equipment. So pain management is just one part of a system that is extremely lacking. Just because my needs may be met by Medicare does not mean that others are.
acrobatinmydreams I understand your point of view regarding the health care and I agree. I know we have a slightly better healthcare system but it still sucks. Don't let these little arguments get you down, you have great posts and I hope you stick around!
