Accessible Gondola Rides In Venice

I am really pleased to see this, a jetty is being designed so that the access to the gondolas is wheelchair accessible. Its great that this is being facilitated but it does say that a wheelchair will take up 3 of the 7 seats.
Lets hope that wheelchair users won't be penalized and charged extra for the experience!
A new project in Venice will allow disabled people to enjoy gondola ride. The nonprofit organization Gondolas 4 All is taking over the project and is creating a special dock where people on wheelchairs could board gondolas. Of course, the gondola have to make room for the wheelchair and so it will eliminate three of the traditional seven seats.
According to a report by the European Union 11% of the population, some 37 million people (of which nearly 4 million Italian), is made up of people with permanent disabilities.
“With this project we want to deliver a message of hope and accessibility to our city – explained Dalla Pietà – we are going to make the vehicle – symbol of our city – the gondola available to everyone and we hope that other operators in the tourism industry will take our project for example

Maybe they are finally seeing the advantages in their Tourism and financial benefits of catering for our wheelie community!
