I've been fighting kidney stones for nearly 2 years and have had 5 out patient surgeries to remove them. The doc's best guess is that dehydration was a prime culpret.

Anybody else have or had this problem?
Not had this problem and i hope I dont' get. You sound very susceptible to them...do you monitor sodium content also..but yes drinking more water is always good for the kidneys.
tonka, you are one tough guy! I don't know if I've ever had it but I remember 3 years ago having a lot of pain and not urinating and when I did, it'd be very painful and a bit bloody. When I tried catheterizing, the catheter got clogged up. I don't know if that was it but it felt like it and it felt like torture. I hope that was the first and last time!
I hope you can get relieved from the kidney stones soon. I can't even imagine how it must feel for you!
Thanks all. wavewolf, good info from Mayo. One of the tests they did was have me collect my urine for 24 hours and send a sample off to some kidney institute. They analyze it and recommend treatments strategy. They are the ones who said drink more H2O AND reduce my salt intake. Salt is interesting as it is also related to high BP. Patricia cooks most of our meals and doesn't add any salt nor do I. Go figure. All my blood work came back normal, not even high for sodium.
For what it is worth, I went to my primary care doc with a backache. He sent me for x-rays and ultrasound which found a 5/8" stone in my right kidney and a smaller one in the left. Neither one would have passed which would have caused intense pain if they had. The urologist used lithotripsy (sound waves) to blast them and then return trips for a lazer to finish them off.
tonka, about how much do you drink everyday? You should try drinking a cup of lemon water at least once a day on top of the other cups of water you drink (or should be drinking) each day.
I used to get kidney stones when I was taking Keppra for my nerve pain. I quit taking it, and I haven't had any kidney stones since! Check on your medications and also, if you take Tums or antacids with calcium in them, the calcium can build up in your kidneys and create a kidney stone. If you get stubborn heartburn and esophagus pain like I do, look into using Pepcid or Prilosec instead of eating Tums 24/7.
