I've had high blood pressure since my injury (I'm on 2 different meds to control it) and a couple times had to go to the ER because I had the worst head ache in my life (a prime warning sign that a stroke might be imminent.

Anyone else have blood pressure problems?
I haven't had SCI related blood pressure issues, I had low blood pressure after my surgery. Last year it went to borderline high and i took beta blockers.
Exercise and diet is so important, Apple Cider Vinegar is good too. Are you sure that you wasnt experiencing Autonomic Dysreflexia?
While severe headache is associated with AD, it is unlikely for someone with injury at L1. Consistently high BP with severe headache is indicative for stroke, so good thing you went to the ER, tonka!
I have suffered from high blood pressure since pre injury days. I have a very small aneurysm on my right renal artery which the Docs say could be causing the blood pressure issues. They are just monitoring for now, no surgery yet.
tonka, ever since my accident my blood pressure has always been on the low side. I think it's common with quadriplegics. Then when I get autonomic dysreflexia (AD), my blood pressure spikes really high. There's no "normal" unfortunately.
wavewolf,as you say L1 is a much lower spinal level for AD but with SCI we know that things can change. Occasional occurrences of high blood pressure with a banging headache should be investigated ideally and AD should be considered
. Of course that is only my opinion...but our body triggers such odd things, you just never know.
Lαrα, you are right--AD must be considered, however remote a possibility. When I thought my SCI was at L3 because that is where the largest lesion was, I did not think I was at risk for AD. Then had a trigger with a violent norovirus and wound up in ER with life-threatening AD. Two years later my paralysis was put at T9 by physiatrist--no one before that assigned a level, or even mentioned "SCI", but I had significant lesions at C4-5, T8-9, and L3, plus smaller lesions throughout cord. And things do change...
