So guys, it's official....I have had a sex change..lol..I now pee like a guy..I have now an artificial penis...lol
Ok so it's now been 3 days...and everything went according to plan...the procedure took 30 minutes, some doctors do it in half the time but my doctor like to use ultrasound to help guide it into the right position. I choose to stay over night only cos I wanted to recover without needing to stress if I was doing everything the right way. I was gone for two hours including recovery time. I had what they called a twilight, where they give u a light sedation. I didn't feel or see a thing. It was good to say overnight cos I didn't have to worry about drinking lots of water cos I had a drip. They would empty my bladder every two hours n then every four hours.
So I haven't had any real pain or even soreness. It doesn't really feel that much different than it did before I had the SPC. Any blood that was in the urine was clear after a few times it was released into the bag. The wound itself I was told, is very clean n there's not even any redness around the tube..the only issues I had, was that I was paranoid about moving around in bed, that I'd make it bleed or I'd pull it out..they assured me that it was safe to move n turn...n the other issue was that I'm sensitive to getting rashers to anything that's sticky on my skin....I was allergic to the dressing which was sticky but apart from that, the procedure went really well, n I'm suprised of how easy it was.
I'm to scared to see it myself just at the moment, maybe later I will..it feel strange having the tube come out of my body n tucking it in my pants...lol..as to using it...it's easy enough but I find it's not long enough...well only because the footplate of my wheelchair gets in the way...I can't get close enough to the toilet to reach in...lol...so for the time being I'm peeing in a jug which I then empty into the toilet bowl..lol
So I haven't wrapped my head around with using a leg bag yet. I think that emptying that for me is going be more difficult, I'm trying to be as independent as possible...going to hav to figure that one out...the good thing is I can pee anywhere even in an empty bottle if I have too.
Well so far the procedure was the easy part, what's doing my head in lis, all the work involved with cleaning the bags n I haven't even used a leg bag yet, just the night bag. And keeping the area clean, it's a little over wellmeming just at the moment. But I've been told that it gets easier n I won't even register anymore. Ok so that's my report...I'm hoping to hear some of ur stories n how it is for u..?
Thanks for the update whiteangel, I'm glad to hear that all went well!
I'd be scared to look at it myself so that's completely understandable haha. I'm sure you'll get used to it after a week or two and it will make you more independent for sure!
Congratulations whiteangel, I'm so glad it all went well for you, and it's good the doctor took his time doing the procedure. I'm seriously considering a colostomy, I know it's different but I just feel it would make life easier for me and my carers.
