I have lived with my SCI for 19 1/2 years now and wonder if I would have turned out different if there was the numerous social media channels back then. I know there are some that have survived much longer than I have and I wonder if you ever ask this question as well.
I don't know if this is just a hair brained idea of mine of if it would be useful. I have been thinking about starting a YouTube Blog of my life experiences with SCI. This would basically just show people how I do things from day to day. I am fortunate that I am able to get around with the use of my AFO braces and a cane. I have always been very active and when telling some ab people they are amazed to learn of what I deal with on a daily basis.
This is not meant to "show off" my accomplishments by any means. This is to possibly give some hope to those that are new to this life. Sometimes it gives a person a little extra pick me up and say I can do that, and more! I want to give people something that wasn't there for me and others that started this journey before these avenues existed. If it made only one persons day a little better then it would be worth it to me.
Any feedback would be appreciated.
Thank you and I hope you all have a great weekend!!
Quite a few people have done this, and each one contributes to a part of the SCI community as well as sharing our world with ABs. My fav YT channels are Paralyzed Living (outstandingly helpful to me), HowIRolldotcom, Jerry Diaz, WheelzofFortune, and a few others I cannot find again! I haven't seen one done by lumbar-level or long-time SCI, so might be a good addition!
jeff1967 I think that'd be an excellent idea! If you feel that you're comfortable enough to do vlogs, I say go for it! You can share your SCI experience with the world and help many people out in doing so.

Thanks DJ! I am doing some research on the vlogs now and will definitely let everyone know when I get this going.
Absolutely! and share them here too, its a great idea jeff1967, dont these ' Getting it on at the gym' and ' SCI Diets made Easy'
Lαrα, I will definitely share here! I want mine to be more about what "we" deal with on a daily basis. I don't want to be a "feel sorry for me" vlog because I probably work harder than a lot of able bodied people lol. Although I know each of us are different, I want to show how I deal with this life, what I do and how I do things. Again, we are all different and have to do things differently but maybe it will open ones eyes to say "Hey, if he can do that then by golly I can do it myself!".
I just feel a need to give back. I was thinking my first or second video will contain me walking without braces, with the old plastic ones and with my new Phat Braces. I will also be open to ideas as to what people want to see (if anything lol) and feedback in general.
Basically it will be a no frills, no "you should do this or that", just this is me and my SCI life.
I think that is a great idea, jeff1967,. Speaking from first-hand experience, I can attest to how helpful you have been to me and my motivation and recovery, especially since we have very similar injuries. The info you have provide on PhatBraces has been invaluable and your walking videos have pushed me onward.

Thank you sponzinn! That means a lot and so glad that I can help in some small way. Maybe Phat Brace will want to put me on the pay roll LOL
I am very busy at work and school at the moment but I am going to get my initial video up soon and will then proceed to do others and will even be open to video ideas from others. I want to also promote this forum for those living with SCI that may not be aware of the awesome group of people here to help and share experiences.
Looking good so far jeff1967! My only suggestion would be to film in landscape mode (turn the phone sideways when recording) that way when you upload the video it'll be full screen.

Yea I have to work on my video technicians lol. Since they aren't getting paid I guess I can't expect them to be perfect.
Thank you for the kind words. I will post as I update and add.
