Over the last 4 years my fingers have really started to tighten up. My left hand is a lot tighter than my right since I use my right hand more. I don't wear a splint to keep my fingers stretched but when I do remember, I try opening them up and stretching them for a while. I also open up my fingers and put my hand under my head while I sleep to keep them open for a while (doesn't last long because it gets uncomfortable). Are there any quads that do anything else to help keep fingers loosened up?
Do you have any FES therapy for your hands DJ? There is so much focus on therapy for legs but independence is offered with hand function. My ankles get very tight so I have someone come and stretch them every day..Someone massaging and opening up your hands each day with oil would help-Is this an option for you?
Lαrα, apart from what I do, my physiotherapist who visits my home does a good stretch during one of our sessions. Most of the time my mom stretches them and massages them with cream after she helps me transfer into bed at night. I've tried using a slim unit a few times in the past but it didn't help. It closed my hands up even more actually lol.
They're not super tight but definitely tighter than before. I'll keep an eye on it and make sure it doesn't get worse.

Hi..I'm totally lost on this website, but hoping someone can help. One of my fingernails is digging into the side of my finger. (the front is short & not curled) We've scrapped & filed but it isn't growing back, straight out. Any suggestions welcomed.
I just do the same as you DJ , I push each finger backwards against the palm on my other hand one at a time.....its become so second nature for me to stretch my fingers that I do it without even noticing, when I've been out with new people, some have asked what I am doing, I explain and laugh inwardly because I didnt notice. I also sleep with my hands under my pillow when laying on my side or tummy to stretch them as you do All I can suggest is keep doing what you're doing, maybe if you forget, put a reoccurring timer on your phone for how often you think you should be stretching your fingers, just to get into a routine.
We found investing in a hot wax machine (like those used in nail salons) works very well to loosen up the hand muscles and tendons prior to stretching them or even just splinting them. Just have to be super careful if you don't have sensation in your hands to make sure the wax isn't too hot.
