My previous pm doctor said it was probably arthritis and that was about it. The shooting pain has me thinking otherwise. I am sure it is full of arthritis but I can't imagine that is what is causing the shooting pain. I did stop by Walgreens and get an ankle brace and wore it until bed time. It may be a coincidence but I have very little ankle pain last night and was really impressed with the support it gave me when walking without the AFO's. I am going to give it a few nights and see if last night was just a fluke or what I have been needing all along.
I've heard of FES but never checked into it. I will do that today as I am finally, after 19+ years, taking control of my health LOL
Yeah I'm not sure what the effects of arthritis are but I'm glad the ankle brace is working out for you! Hopefully it's not a fluke and yeah haha give FES a try sometime
Yea it sucks seeing everyone going and doing their thing. Our kids live 750 miles away so it is just her and I. She will not go and leave me behind even though I tell her to get out and enjoy life. She is too soft hearted and just will not do it. I was going to fly her back to Kentucky so she could spend Christmas with her family but she will not go without me! We have too dogs and a cat and I refuse to board them again. I'm a big softy when it comes to my pets LOL.
I got out and walked up the street and back yesterday with the new ankle stablizer and I didn't experience any pain. I have zero balance without my phat braces but I feel much more stable when I put the new accessory on. I am going to work on my balance and see if it can be improved any. Sure won't hurt to try. Maybe that will be a good video in itself LOL.
Yea, the atrophy sucks. My legs look very weird. Thigh muscles are very strong but below the knees I look like a freaking chicken LOL

DJ,
Is the stimulating the muscles themselves? I have some super duper TENS unit that has multiple settings. I wonder if this would help any?

Jeff it's basically a big tens unit which targets multiple muscle groups at once. If you watch the video below, you can see the pads applied to different muscle areas.
Ok folks I wanted to give a quick update on the pain. I have been pain free for a little over 24 hours!!! To any other group this would not be significant but for us 24 hours without pain can be tremendous!
I've tried so many things lately I am not sure what to attribute this to but I will take it. Tomorrow will be one week since the ESI, is it finally kicking in? I have been wearing the ankle support brace at home without my AFO's and I am almost positive that this has been a benefit. Today I am wearing it inside my Phat Brace. None of the AFO braces fit tight to give the ankle support I really need. So far it feels good. Going to keep an eye on the leg and foot to make sure nothing goes wrong.
jeff1967, that is so good to hear! I really hope it keeps up for you..pain free existence is such a relief and better quality of life! Its very tiring feeling constant pain.

I woke up early this morning feeling great and much like my old self. I had forgotten what it was like to wake up and have a bit of energy. I don't know if this will last a day, a week or forever. However I will keep posting here to let others know how things are proceeding. I know each of our situations are different and the same thing doesn't usually work for two different people but if I can help steer someone in a positive direction I sure will.

That is awesome jeff1967, way to go! No pain for 24 hours is one really good day! I hope you've found your solution, definitely keep us updated
I have come to the conclusion that the new ankle support is definitely doing its job. I was up and down several times during the night, not for pain but because my 1 year old Cocker Spaniel wanted daddy to play! This morning I had a little pain but nothing compared to before. I put on the ankle support and Phat Braces, took a pain pill and no pain since.
I have put together a pretty good list of home projects to start this week/end and that will be the real test.
