I live in a small community, so handicap accessibility is minimal at best. I get irked, when the ONE handicap spot at the store is taken by someone who is ambulatory. Then, more often than not, I have to park far away, as I need full door extension to get out and don't want to risk dinging another car as that would be rude! I watch to see who is in the handicap spot, and sadly, did you know, that you can get a tag if you are mental? So here are people fully physically capable, parking there because "they can". I know of two different people in my community, one with PTSD and the other with a mental disorder who were given handicap license plates and they abuse the system. The WALK out of the store, get in their "wonderful" parking spot, as I am wheeling my way across the lot...
To Kilg....Why do you think the police "Should have shot the lady in the head"? Seems a bit extreme....Elaborate?
It's the worst faery, can't stand people like that! We've got plenty of threads on handicapped parking abuse, check them out, some are really interesting lol - Disabled parking abuse
they wonder why people have no respect for the law. I also blame our parking abuse on Doctors. They hand out placarads like candy. It seems anyone who is fat and overweight can get a placard. I get in pissing matches all the time with overweight people parking in handicap spots. I tell them loose some weight and they will not have to take the spot for a real handicap person. The sci community is looked upon as we are fine seating in chairs. If we look good then we must be fine and have no problems. I even had a guy once tell me we had it made sitting on our ass in a chair. Some people just don't get it. Every able bodied person needs to be in a chair for one week . We will then have a cure.

Ugh, they're the worst! I agree, the doctors do just give em out for any little issue. People really don't get it. Let them be in a chair for a week during the winter, then we'll really have a cure!
I get a little nuts sometimes about placards and who should have them. I don't mean to knock overweight people but it just seems if someone is really heavy they automatically get one. Today I seen a guys at sams club, had to be 80 years old with a cane. He parked really far away and hobbled into the store. I really give a guy like that credit. Then I get the guy who jumps out of his beefed up pickup truck and jumps on a scooter to wheel around the store. Its just a game to able bodied people. This is the only thing about Sci that ticks me off and its no respect for the really disabled person. Not just sci but many disabilities that get abused by people. I don't know if it will ever change. Best to all. It's time for a few drinks.

Exactly! Doctors should be telling them to park far away and get some exersize. Instead they're contributing to the problem
Should have shot the lady in the head. Got off easy if you ask me.
Why do you think this?
Just a stab at lightening up a sad situation, well then it kind of tied into the unarmed folks getting shot for nothing. I wasn't being literal, hard to tell with me I suppose. Sorry

I've said the Doc's are a great part of the problem, and even that they hand out placards. So much abuse it makes me sick. But what really sucks is that you can't tell if someone needs a placard or not. That overweight person, may have a thyroid issue. I avoid parking in a handicapped parking, but there are times when I need to. With pants on it's hard to tell I have any issue. I've seen now where they have parking seperated some for disabled and some for the elderly. I think this helps. In my area I see more elderly parking in them than overweight people. I think I'm going in circles, my point is you really can't tell someones medical condition by looking.
kilg0retr0ut, kind of a dark humor about shooting the lady, but the news that week was so crazy it did kind of inspire it...
The whole disabled parking thing is a challenge. There are unseen disabilities, many of them. I have learned to keep my mouth shut more. But I do go off when I see people lifting 50lb boxes of stuff at Sam's Club, and running around from one side of the car to another. I have modified my shopping based on availability of parking, and written the store manager with copies to corporate HQ, about why. Actually got back two meaningful letters promising to look into the situation, especially hopeful considering that police will not pursue a complaint if it is a store-owned parking lot (i.e., private property) unless the store calls it in. I asked that they call in those who are parked in a labeled spot with no disabled plates nor disabled placard, especially when a customer in a chair must then park far away. I explained that getting in is far easier than getting out with purchases, and I think they got the message ($$$$$$)!!
