3 Weeks delivery time. I had some much help from my neurologist, Browning's Medical Supply and Sea Pines Rehab. The approval went through on the 1st try! I expected several iterations with Medicare. Sea Pines alone supplied them with a 11 page document describing my needs for an ultra light chair.
1) Get script from neurologist to w/c provider 2) Provider contacted physical therapist for my w/c evaluation 3) Had evaluation (11 page report) 4) Neurologist approves PT report 5) Provider files with Medicare (a ton of paperwork, filled out precisely to Medicare standards, not something you can do yourself) 6) Provider orders chair precisely to Medicare specs
If you are trying to get a new chair, do it soon! With political climate out there, a certain ruling party out there is doing everything in their power to dismantle Medicare. Functional ultralite w/c's are on their chopping block!

Knight, this is the Medicare process and it can take months. cbdives is correct that you cannot do it yourself, the paperwork must be done exactly in order and requires DME supplier with experience. Who does your evaluation is critical, so I would talk to the DME supplier first about that, because it seems that they choose. Medicare already is refusing payment on titanium chairs, so truly ultralight is something you would have to pay for. Joe's Rogue is strong but light chair because it is made of oversized 7000 aluminum. In the future, we can expect that chairs will have to last 8-10 years before chance to have payment for new one covered. Manufacturer's are already modifying some features to make sure they are ready to warranty that life. So, do act NOW!
On another note, I just read that Medicare premiums may go up 52% in January, for these reduced benefits. That's tied in with no cost of living increase in Social Security this coming year, so additional costs of Medicare have to be covered somehow.
cbdives & wavewolf, my physical therapist has already done an evaluation and I have the order form filled out. Honestly, if what you're saying about titanium chairs is true, I'll just have to save up because aluminum does not stand up to my level of activity. I'm missing half the screws on my Q7 so the foot rest falls off. I'm glad I got a used Quickie Ti. I hope I'll be able to figure something out because there is no way I am letting some able-bodied overpaid idiot to tell me what I need in a w/c. I've made that mistake before! The stupid thing is, a demo chair (16"x16") is the perfect size for me, but I cannot find any of those either.

TiLite lists their demo chairs on Ebay. Must act quickly for 16"x16", which is a popular size.
