Well, life for Carsten and I now has started to form a new normal for us, one morning when things were a little strained between us he said in a moment of anger I wish I could have someone else but you. I set some time aside to talk to him about what he said, and the idea of getting him a carer to do his morning routine once or twice a week to give him a break from me. So we talked about how it might work, he insists it has to be a guy not a girl, so I have contacted a couple of agencies, neither of them had anyone male that's also skilled at working with children. But did agree to advertise to find someone.
Which has also got me to thinking about offering a nursing student a room and board in our home in exchange for a few short shifts with Carsten a week. Obviously not before a police check and reference checks. But it does lead me to the idea of workers insurance, what happens in the case of an accident.
I know laws are different all over, but has anyone had a live in carer under a similar arrangement?
Hey nathanau, interesting question! I have heard of people having live in carer but I never thought about the insurance part. It could be different in different countries but maybe calling an insurance company and asking would help?
I think this will be good for both of you. You definately need some days off and Carsten wouldn't have to worry about giving you too much work
Work isn't the issue I actually enjoy my time looking after him, and helping him with his personal care. It's just about variation for him.
I have called an insurer it's a really grey area, but they have said I might be able to provide personal accident insurance and maybe private health insurance as well.
I'm still hugely undecided on what to do, right now I'm just thinking using regular agency workers would just be easiest.

Yeah sorry I know what you mean, just wasn't sure how to word it haha. Yeah if an agency can find a male nurse qualified to care for Carsten that'd probably be the best thing. Hopefully it won't be long until they find one!
Sounds like a great idea nathanau. Surely one of the agencies out there have male workers, have you tried independence Australia? I think the insurance issue could be easily overcome even though Australia is going like America and we sue at the drop of a hat. But I really think it's worth investigating mate. How's your blue and gold going? They are a great bird.
