Analrectal manometry. Hmmm. Anyone know about this? I'm having it done tomorrow and is it a definitive test for CES associated bowel problems? They seem confused as to why I am having constipation. Once stool gets to the descending part of my colon it just doesn't move! I also have weak sphincter.
"Anorectal manometry is a test performed to evaluate patients with constipation or fecal incontinence. This test measures the pressures of the anal sphincter muscles, the sensation in the rectum, and the neural reflexes that are needed for normal bowel movements."
chrioli, it seems like it's a procedure used to test anyone with bowel complications. Do you have any control over your bowels at all?

They seem to like to run tests on you Chrioli. I hadn't heard of the test, I thought either being constipated or very loose were normal complications for CES. Well hopefully they will tell them something that may make life easier for you, who knows.
DJ, I have constipation but no control over gas or loose stool. Still have saddle area sensation loss. Since this is a work related injury, I am being drug over hot coals.
KiloretrOut Lol. Common sense would tell you a lower motor neuron nerve injury like CES would have lower motor neuron deficits. As the test showed. The nurse said, "why on earth are they making you do this? You are correct when you say they just want to do tests on me. Or rather the lawyer for the hospital I worked for when I herniated the disc. A large central/ paracentral requiring decompression for mass effect. Next will be the comprehensive psyche eval for injury related depression. Chrioli

It kinda sounded like someone was trying to disprove your injury. Sorry you have to deal with the B.S. The hardest part should be dealing with the loss, not having to deal with the "system". I'm lucky, everyone involved agree's I'm toast, but I'm still jumping (not really jumping) through the Insurance and legal hoops. I been told many times "it all a game", how sick is that. I don't want to play their game. It's a game if your not actually the person who pee's through a straw, or craps their pants in public. Turdholes! (that may have been a mini-rant)
KilgOretrOut This was a work related injury, so I am being tortured by opposing counsel who wants to drag me through the streets naked and set me on fire in the town square!!! Due unfortunately to an insecure comment the neurosurgeon made when he realized he let me sit in the ER too long and now I have lasting issues ie: All the lovelies of ces.
Yeah that much be really annoying chrioli. Things like this should be quite obvious for CES and other spinal cord related issues. Hopefully they're done with their testing soon!
DJ Thank you for the sympathy;) it has been humiliating and early in the case I almost started doubting myself. Lol! Since then every test and referral Dr has provided confirmation. I tried to fire my attorney twice to stop this, but he says it's a strong case and has been so supportive and keeps me pushing forward. And I also found out because it is a work injury I have to have workers comp because no other insurance will cover it now. Even after its settled I worry that everything medically that comes up will require another hearing!!!!

chrioli, believe me I know what it's like dealing with all these legal matters and yes they do just drag on and seem to never end but they will eventually end! You gotta just stay strong and do whatever you have to do and push through because once you reach the end, it'll be worth it.

[/font] I think you should be aware that you medical needs will most likely grow with CES, not to mention the cost of medications. WC will pay for your medical until you settle. I'd be leery of a lawyer who pushes you in that direction. IMO

5 years out I still have saddle sensation loss along with horrible constipation, on the bright side my gas issues have lessoned.
Its been over a year for me and as the acute phase wears off where I couldn't tell what was up; it all felt strange and frightening. I am realizing what seems like more permanent stuff. It is more identifiable. Not trying to be negative about my recovery but I don't want to live in a fantasy either.
Glad to hear that the gas goes (so embarrassing), or steady yours did. My backside is so numb and since I can't feel stool in there at all and have no normal bowel urge. I can't tell until I look whether I have gone or how successful it was or wasn't. I'd much rather be plugged up than the alternative. It's really embarrassing that the whole Workmans comp system are reading about this kind of stuff! It's wierd to say the least!!!

The workman comp system knows more about this than many doctors. They have a job to do and it's to save as much money as possible. Don't take it personal, your just a number on a spreadsheet.
