I am an L1 incomplete and have recovered to the point that I think I am able to ride on two wheels again. I have been considering options, ie a motorcycle, scooter or even maybe a 3-wheeled Can Am Spyder.
I know Jeff1967 rides a Harley with heel and toe shifting, but is there anyone else out there that rides? I have been leaning more towards a maxi-scooter like a Honda Silverwing because of the hand controls.

I tried the trike thing and is was great getting wind in my face but 3 wheels going around corners just just didn't do it for me . I progesed to dirt bikes , track bikes and also have a bike I do a annual charity ride with . I built retractable wheels originally but they are useless on dirt or roads with camber . I now pull. Up against trees , poles , fences or whatever I can find when I stop . Once you get going it is really quiet easy Cheers

wheeliworks, very cool! Did you find it hard to balance when you began riding again. I agree with the once you get rolling, I have a problem with the stopping. I'm interested in this, I sold my bike. What about on the road at a red light or stop sign? Do you have some kind of thingamajig that holds the weight of the bike? How much would it cost to have a bike equipped?

I try not to ride through cities where I can help it . When our ride takes us through a city I ride with others and have a system of one riding ahead and stopping on side of rd at lights and holding me up if red . There have been a few embarrassing fails & a few shortcuts up footpaths but all good fun . I fell over more when I had the stableisor wheels . Riding first time balance was surprisingly easy , I think because balancing in a chair is something we constantly do . I managed to pull a 100m wheelie after 2 minutes riding . Tilting your head is enough to balance the bike .

But how to shift gears? I loved driving my bike before injury. I dont like using car much back then and even now. My brother and I are going on road trips every weekend for months now. He drives and I sit on back seat. We normally stop by road side for every 100kms to relax our muscles. I love to know how you manage to shift gears with a leg and apply brakes with precision with another leg. Applying front brake all the time is not posible and is dangerous. So, how are you managing it?

[T Legs are overrated . I have clutch and brake levers on left handle bar as well as gear change buttons with left thumb . I have attached a pretty ordinary video which shows modifications to my Scrapheap, bike
I look forward to seeing the finished ride.::tup:: I showed my wife, she pretty much laid down the law, no more bikes for me.hehe
That ride and many more have been done . That was 2012 . My wife sold my young sons bike and told him and me no more riding . She obviously didn't even think it would be possible . So I kind of eased into it . I bought a trike and modified it . She wasn't happy but saw how good it made me feel . Then I bought myself and my son a go kart and started racing . The go kart track had days where you could ride small Chinese bikes on the track . I bought one and found it quiet easy riding . Eventually both my son and myself both bought good trail bikes and started riding on a regular basis . I beleive the risk of phisical harm riding a bike is far better than the mental torture by not.
