advice reasonably priced lightweight wheelchair

I thought of a loaner...problem is that they're all steel frames and quite heavy. my wife would have trouble hoisting into the trunk of the car when we travel. At the airport the chair would go through as baggage anyway I would imagine and I'd be wheeled or trolleyed by attendants any way as happened with my dad. We go through Amsterdam (geat airpory by the way)...they pick you up at the gate with a golf cart and whisk you away to your connecting flight. Arriving at YVR is the same except they accompany you only as far as the luggage carousel, then you're on your own. You still have to get through customs screening...it's a pain in the sphyncter. I know as I've done this with my dad several times. I haven't looked into rentals but I think that the price would probably be a toss-up in the end. And I'd have to rent one here and have someone rent one in Vancouver for my arrival. 270 Euros = 350 CAD...That's less than a day here at the clinic. The same chairs they have here at the clinic sell for 165 Euros on this same site. Medical related items and meds are dirt-cheap here in France.

Incidentally, Kilgore, I have always been a yoooge fan of Vonnegut's.

I've only had to use a chair for short periods, I'm a semi-walker, so my info. on chairs is limited at best. I was hoping someone with more experience would chime in. If you go higher end I've heard it's important to get fitted correctly. I hope I haven't created more work for you.
