I've been searching this forum, using a variation of words, about how to treat a pressure sore. All I can find is prevention and description of pressure/bed sores. Does anyone know how to treat it at home? At what point do you decide it is time to go to hospital? I can't go to my primary doctor because the bed is too high for me to transfer to.
KarenH a pressure sore is serious business and could be deadly. I think you should definately see a health care professional for this one. In the meantime, stay off the sore as much as possible and make sure the area is clean and doesn't get infected.

KarenH you really should have a nurse who can come and visit you because if you suspect a pressure sore is there, you need treatment.

Whose bed is to high? If your primary can't accommodate you maybe you should call around and find one that can. As stated above pressure sores are serious business. Is there a wound clinic anywhere near? I'd spend a day calling around looking for proper help, better than you'd get from the ER. These sores are tricky and slow to heal. The main thing is to get the pressure off the area. I wish you well.

I got a referral for home health care for the pressure sores. I did go to the ER and they said it was stage 1 which is good because I thought it was stage 2. I told them my mom has been treating it with A&D cream and they said that was good.

Glad to hear that you've got it checked out and that it hasn't gotten too bad KarenH. The home health care will be great. Hope you can get that started soon!
