I'm paralyzed from Spinal Cord Tumor surgeries at and around T6-T10. Total body 15 surgeries in 15 years. I spend most of the day in bed with my feet up on pillows to avoid edema which has been a problem. The issue is when I get in my wheelchair from just above my ankles to my feet get cold and purple colored. I put them up and it goes away.
Gatorbuffalo, I went through a time with swollen feet. Actually, I only have one leg,...so, swollen foot.) It was worst when I had a Foley catheter, long term. I now have no Foley and just wear diapers. That change helped my swollen foot and leg. I took a combination of 'kidney herbs' for the renal part of my problem, and I take cayenne pepper for overall sluggish blood circulation.
A combination of estim and random compression socks (proper socks, with graduated compression), not teds or jobst (which I greatly prefer to those white teds) or even tubies work for me. Also, my feet stay warm because circulation, which is a big plus. It's possible to get those home use SCDs relatively inexpensively, also, and I have had great luck with them, both with and without the foot piece attached.

Hi Gatorbuffalo, the turning of your feet into purple color is maybe due to improper blood supply to this area. You may consult a physical therapist for this.

A. Anyone else deal with this?
If so,
B. Solutions or how to reduce it?
Thanks.
So many surgeries! I can understand your issues regarding your feet as I have similar and If my legs ( more so the left one) are not raised, they swell. My feet can turn blue sometimes and feel very cold to touch but I dont really feel them cold. Sometimes they burn and turn more so red..depending on the temperature externally.
Self help such as raising legs when you can, low salt diets and support tights like you get in hospital. Its a tricky one when it comes to the extremities of the body, someone massaging your feet may help, one of those foot spas that you can buy...just a thought?
Hi I was injured in 1990. I’m a c5/c6 incomplete SCI I can stand a walk some. I started seeing this happening to my feet about 8 years ago. I went to a Doctor and he said it is from poor circulation. Basically from being in the chair. What confused me is that it came on about 19 years after my accident. It has gotten worse and that is how I found this forum. I’m planning a trip to my Doctor.

I recently find my ankles swelling a bit more than "normal" after 11 years. I use compression socks already. My first hypothesis was a change in Kidney function, as I have one that barely drains at all. I returned more vigorously to using a Chinese herbal remedy foe kidney stones that I was on before and swelling has returned to "normal", which is minimal. Still, I am not satisfied. Another recent change is to a pair of new shoes that make my feet hotter. I will experiment a bit more.
You can also ask for a circulation analysis, in case an obstruction has developed. Blowing you off with "it's poor circulation" is not helpful. Your change demands more investigation since blood clots are one possibility.
my feet are swelling more now than they used to. I'm having a renogram, kidney ultrasound and x-rays of the kidneys just to make sure they're okay. This is due on Friday seventh of June. I guess it's one of the hazards of spinal injury and inactivity. At least my feet go down overnight and in the morning they look normal. I've measured my urine output and it equals my urine input. No problem there. I'm up at 8 o'clock and stay up late, so maybe I should get on the bed earlier. That would certainly help.
