Since having the sensory part of my sacral nerve cut in 1993, I have suffered extreme spasms, sometimes flipping me off the bed or out of the chair. I had my first baclofen pump fitted in 1995. The dose has slowly risen from 350 micrograms to nearly 700 micrograms per twenty-four hours. Baclofen is a horrible drug. It causes drowsiness, insomnia, lack of enthusiasm and many other negative symptoms. I saw a neurologist last Friday. He told me I was saturated with baclofen and that I should have Botox injections and the baclofen pump dose reduced. I had read that people can have extreme reactions to Botox. One man was put on a life-support machine because the botulinum migrated to his brainstem. He was unable to breathe, speak or move for over three months. Does anybody know of any other serious complications with Botox? I want to do as much research as possible before going ahead and having the treatment.
mikeq, I've never heard of that being a side effect of Botox before, scary! From what I've heard it's pretty safe for the most part. I've been offered Botox for my bladder since I have a hyperactive bladder however I declined the offer since I didn't like the idea of paralyzing my bladder. I'm paralyzed enough! I do know a few people who have used Botox to relax different muscles in their body and it worked pretty well for them. Would you be injecting the Botox directly to the muscles that cause your spasms?
From what I have red and or heard on the news about Botox is, that it is made from Botulism one of the deadliest toxins on the earth. And I for one would have to really think hard about putting it in my body.
