Anyone know what kinda suppository is best/safest to use everyday in the long run? I know there's dulcolax which stimulates the rectal area and bowels and there's also glycerin type that draws water to the bowels. Which is better? Maybe list pros & cons of both. Thanks!

From someone who has tried everything during my 37 year quad career I use dulcolax with the 10mg of the active ingredient Bisocodyl. My programs take about 2 hours and I have tried other things like Enemeez to try and reduce the time it takes but they don't clean me out nearly as well. Only the last 15 cm or something like that. With the bullet you insert up the old dirt road while you're on your LEFT side. Lay there for 20 minutes while it dissolves then stim. Wait another 20 minutes then stim again. This is about the time things start moving between 40-60 minutes and I get up onto the commode chair and go over the throne. Stim as needed until you feel empty or have had a bowl bouncer.
I was looking at a colostomy until a para Skyped with me and showed me her routine changing her bag and the stoma. The stoma made me queezy and she had undigested carrots and undissolved meds in her stool. Your waste comes out much sooner than if it has to take the long dirt road lol. I'm stickin with what works for me and just dealing with the 2 hr program every 3rd eveing.
'There's always something magic, there's always something true. And when you really, really need it the most, that's when rock 'n roll dreams come true.'
softballdad Start to finish between a hour and a hour thirty. One thing though. The peristeen system might pose a challenge for a quad with limited hand function. If you have no help

I would want some help at first but I just watched the promotional video animated and it doesn't look impossible. Need good aim though.
I take Miralax (1/2 dose about every third day) then use a Fleet Liquid Glycerin Suppository. At first I went every night, but now I go every other night. I sit on the commode, insert the suppository and my bowels immediately move. I then sit about 5-10 mins. to make sure nothing more is coming. I don't sit long because I am afraid of developing hemorrhoids.
The price on that website is $97 per box of 100. I pay $54 plus shipping from Sportaid.com. There are several off-brands for sale on ebay of bisacodyl 10 mg suppositories that are way cheap- around $15/ 100 box. That woudl strike me as suspect but a Canadian friend started using them and says they work fine.
I think what'a best is whatever works well for an individual. If my stool is likely to be very hard I use an enemeez, but Magic Bullet has been my usual for 8 years. After the suppository is in I do other stuff for 10 minutes, then action usually goes quickly but I read awhile to make sure it's all finished, sitting happily on my padded seat toilet. I'm done within an hour of beginning the process.
I have to tell my funny story. When I was living in a foreign country, a friend who only spoke English was going to the pharmacy and asked me if she could pick up anything for me. I replied that my husband would go later, but she insisted, saying that she was really good at pantomime and could make them understand anything she wanted. When I told her I needed suppositories she decided that it might be better if my husband got them for me.
