My daughter just sent me this link to a new standing wheelchair. It looks great. I emailed about the price, but no word yet. I can only imagine! (and dream, I suppose).
Anyone heard of this or tried it? What do you think?
I've been researching standing wheelchairs for over a year. I want one. I want an electronic one. It would help my digestion and elimination, would allow me to reach upper cabinets in the kitchen, and allow me to reach a few more things at the grocery store. What I don't want is a standing frame. When somebody knocks on my door, I need to roll over and open my door,...not struggle to transfer from the standing frame to my wheelchair, and then to roll over and answer the door. The way that insurance works these days, I can already envision making a compelling argument about needing the standing wheelchair for improved digestion and elimination,...and then being offered a (stationary) standing frame that an aide would have to strap me into and get me out of, rather than the standing wheelchair that would exponentially improve my health AND independence.
Yes, standing helps with so much stuff vintage, I had a standing frame 20 years ago and broke my ankle in it the second time I used it. My typical luck (or stupidity). I thought it felt 'funny' the whole time I was standing. Wasn't until I sat back down again that we noticed the swelling. This standing chair could be great fun, though.
