I started using cannabis as treatment for muscle spasms and muscle tension on January 6, 2017. Before starting I suffered from muscle tension 50% to 75% of the day and intermittent muscle spasms in left leg and left side of body with some minor muscle spasms on right side of body. What really bothered me was the muscle tension and it mostly occurred in my upper arms, shoulders, chest and neck muscles. it is very hard to describe the feeling accurately, but here I go, its like being under stress and under pressure to get something done even though there is nothing causing it but the SCI, its like I was working out for 6 hours and my muscles were at attention and awkwardly ready to do something even though there was nothing to do. The only way to relieve is to do nothing and try and sleep but that doesn't work often. Very frustrating and I needed to find a way to relieve the muscle tension. It wasn't painful for most of the time it just isn't right and it was more of an inconvenience than anything with soreness added
I decided to try indica strains of cannabis for relief of muscle tension. I am very glad I did. even the sativa types seem to help too just in a lesser way. I more than recommend to everyone suffering from a SCI. each strain helps somewhat it is just a matter of finding the right strain for your needs. i've used now for 5 weeks and just yesterday I stopped because my kids were coming to visit for 2 days and I can really feel the difference. it has been 24 hrs since last use and my muscles are really tense right now and have been for 2 hrs straight. I upped my baclofen and dantrolene intake but it doesn't help much, I need to start cannabis treatment again or I will go nuts.
cannabis causes an almost instant relief from muscle tension once the active ingredient hits your system, at least for me. it can take 5 minutes when smoking or one hour when injesting. would like to try drops or tinctures soon because I am not a fan of smoking it.
would like to hear others opinion on this matter so please respond.
I was chosen for a cannabinoid trial some years ago. It came in the form of a pill. Ended up taking way over the recommended dose. Memory suffered dramatically. Attention span vastly diminished. Artwork took on a new form. Some amazing paintings produced during this period. Although I found cannabis useful for neurological pain, I found that it did very little for spasm. To be honest I was glad to get off the trial. I wanted to get back into my head rather than out of it.
Interesting, for every sci there is some different symptoms which need to be recognized. for me when I do cannabis I may be out of my head for an hour or so but it is well worth the relief in muscle tension for about 5 hours. I use care to not over medicate.

Have you recovered from that or were there permanent changes?
I tried cannabis for neuropathy a few months after my injury, was given too much and had a bad experience. Went full body paralyzed, couldn't even talk. But five years later I'm preparing to try it again. I take gabapentin but I have to increase the dosage annually. I am looking to try a small amount of indica edible right before bed. I dont want to do it during the daytime but it seems I need to take a pain pill in order to get any sleep. As I don't want to take a narcotic daily I thought I'd try this again. The legal story is that I live in Montana, a state that just passed medical marijuana use so it's legal but not readily available. My Dr. won't prescribe it because of hospital policy but said if I had some she would write a letter defending my possession. So I'm currently in Washington where it is completely legal and that's why I thought I'd try it here and if it works figure out how I want to go on from here. When I go to Alaska in the summer, a state where it is also legal, I'll be able to purchase it but not able to take it out on the boat as that's considered federal waters and the Coast Guard would vehemently oppose per their zero tolerance policy. So this is a great example to demonstrate the need for legalizing marijuana nationwide. To conclude I would like to ask advice from others in my position, just the use of the product, not the legal aspects:). Thanks.
Alaskaone, I hope that the "small amout" will turn out to be helpful to you. When you were "given too much", what form was it in? A 'pill form', as was given to Mikeq?.

Hi Vintage. It was in cookie form but I would guess it was the sativa as opposed to indica variety. I've researched this some and concluded the indica is best for chilling and sleeping. Will hopefully get some next week and let you know.
