TJ, completely and entirely FWIW (quite possibly nothing!) my (relatively small) syrinxes were caused by post-traumatic tethering aka adhesive arachnoiditis aka scar tissue (all depends on which doctor you asked!) that was so dense there was no CSF exchange above and below, and it ran 8 vertebrae long. I had it removed (twice) with good results. I didn't have any cauda equina involvement - I don't know how much trickier that makes things.
I hope you're doing well and recovering from what I am sure was a lot to take in. Best wishes.
Thank you for your reply Annev308, I'm still waiting for my Dr's full review of all test results. I will know more then. I was already told that no surgery would help just from what the MRI had shown, and they also said the only thing I could hope for would be stem cell research to advance farther because that would be my best hope. At least I will know after all of this where things stand and will be more able to plan accordingly. Thanks for your concern and kind words , I hope that all is going well for you. ..
I received a letter from the Dr's at Mayo today, it says that I have Arachnoiditis and the Cauda equina nerve roots are involved at the L2-L3 levels plus at the L4-L5 levels and through the L5-S1and S2-S3 levels , it also states that there is no cyst so surgery is not an option, what was thought to be a cyst is all scar tissue and fibrous material. I said that I would keep you informed about the results and this is it. Thank you all for your encouragement and support.
I will do just as I have done before the diagnosis, I will take it one day at a time and keep people on keeping on. There's no other choice, I Dan now plan and know what is ahead and keep on going. Nothing will stand in my way , it may just slow me down a bit.

Thanks for the update Tj. Wow, not the news you wanted to hear eh? It's good that you've been coping with it well (at least from what I can see). I know it's not easy to find out about this but you gotta keep moving forward and work towards making yourself stronger!
