Howdy all, I might end up visiting London, England mid this year for about a month on holiday for the first time.
Can anyone please point me in the direction of any (short stay) wheelchair friendly accommodation I can look into? Not a hotel, but more short let type thing. I highly doubt airbnb home owners will possibly have a wheelchair friendly accommodation, so I am not sure I even want to look into that.
Hi Mikekay. Not sure whether you need a wheelchair accessible apartment or more than that. There are lots of apartments that claim wheelchair accessible but not a lot in central London with wheel in showers etc. If you look on sites like Trip advisor you will find many that are accessible in a chair but have little in the way of facilities like wheel in showers etc. I will send some links. Had you considered staying outside central London where you may have more luck with more accessibility?
Had a quick look at these and one or two appear to have wheely showers. There is a company www.disabledholidays.com/ who are very helpful and it may be worth getting in touch with them about your requirements. Good luck - hope you find the right place for you.

Hi Moco,
Many thanks for the tip, and for the links provided. I have already seen a few options.
But yes, I guess I might be willing to consider staying outside central London. Even though the person I am going to see is there, if I have to travel a bit, then so be it.
Would you however please be willing to mention specific location names outside of London that you refer to? so i can check the distance I will have to be travelling to and from? And just to research the are in general and property options.
Then can I ask where about exactly you are located?
I live in the North West of England (Peak District/Manchester area) but I lived in London until about 6 years ago and my daughter still lives there so I have a reasonable knowledge. I mentioned places outside of London in general not specific. Do you need a wheelie shower or other aids? Are you totally wheelie? I am happy to do a bit of digging around and send anything of interest. Hotels would probably be better facility wise. How long are you planning on staying in London?

Thank you. I will be needing a wheelie shower. That to me is perhaps the biggest concern I have. Any other inconvenience can be dealt with reasonably.
I just found out that my cousin lives in East London. So that is where I might be needing to go often. So, I am hoping any accessible accommodation I get outside of London as you say will be within a "reasonable" travelling distance.
So, do you have any specific ideas in mind relatively close to East London that will be accessible? I hope to stay for about a month.
Thank you again.
PS* Also, a holiday might be too expensive I think, given the length of stay. I was thinking more of a short term stay type accommodation.
If you don't mind a train ride into the city you could look at Southend on Sea (proper English seaside resort) or Colchester. I will have a look to see if there's anything suitable when I have a moment. Initial searches aren't very positive so far. I'll post again if I come up with anything useful.
