Nerves extend from your brain and spinal cord. They send important messages to the entire body. If a person suffers from Pinched Nerve (Nerve Compression) the body may send a warning signal in the form of pain.
The condition may occur due to several reasons -
• Repetitive motions
• Holding your body in one position for long periods, such as keeping elbows bent while sleeping
• Nerve compression usually occurs when the nerve is pressed amid tissues such as, ligaments, tendons and bones
I get pinched nerves in my neck and upper back, then I go to a walkin clinic to see a chiropractor and he takes care of it. It can be quite painful and debilitating.
I've never been to one. The idea of "cracking my back" kinda scares me but at the same time seems like it'd feel good. I should go try it out one of these days!
I happened to have had four wonderful chiropractors through the years. I've heard and read chiropractor stories that didn't go well. The worst I ever had was one young fellow who worked at a free clinic. (This was many years pre-SCI). I had a pain right between my shoulder blades and, because I'd had extensive experience with chiropractory, I 'cut to the chase' and told the young chiropractor (who I had just met for the first time), exactly the spot where I needed his services. Apparently, he had a sadistic streak, because he managed to waste the session piddlying around above and below the spot I'd indicated, but never would dive in for the kill at what needed to be done. I think it was intentional,...my punishment for knowing what I needed. So, even 'alternative therapy' people are capable of having 'power trips'. He didn't do me any physical harm,...just gave me a major dose of frustration. I haven't had any chiropractor since my SCI, and I'm sure they would need to do extensive X-rays to cover themselves legally.

I don't trust chiropractors, some know what they're doing, some just crack your back. The one that didn't help you vintage, was probably a good one. They don't mess with dangerous area's, the good ones know better.

I have continued to use chiropractic care post accident. One of the best and least intrusive methods of chiropractic is called the activator method. there is no twisting or turning, just precise application of force, like a ping, with this handheld device.
As with MDs, some are competent and some are morons. Clearly force should NEVER be applied to a fused joint. It is ok to adjust above or below a fusion and my own experience is that can take pressure off of the fused joint if alignment is out of balance.
While I'm happy with my present practitioner I never cease to be vigilant. My attitude is the same toward my Urologist. because unless a medical person specializes in treating spinal cord injured people they will not be aware of many things about us, or that are particular to ME. Very few medical people realize how very fragile I am. I remind my Chiropractor now and then how severe my osteoporosis is, and that even at low force adjusting a facet of one of my vertebrae could fracture it. I would not hold her responsible- I'm the one seeking care, yet I expect her to dial down the force exerted by her activator to a very low level. I watch when she enters the room to see her change the setting from what is used with other patients.
She is skilled- I get a lot of benefit from her care, yet I trust no one but myself to remember what is unique about me.

No, he wasn't a good chiropractor at all. As I said, I've had extensive experience with chiropractors. The spot that I pointed out to him would have been very easy to adjust, and it was not a "dangerous area".
HOW can you let someone mess with your body without him ATLEAST see xrays etc
Many chiropractors do use x-rays. I personally wouldn't trust one who didn't on a first visit. I guess that I should clarify that I have been going to the same chiro for the last 10 years or so. And the walk in clinic is his and he is the only chiro there. This being said, he has always known it seems, if he will be able to clear up my discomfort or he will say that I need to go to my Dr . Each of us have to make our own medical decisions and I for one am going to my chiro because I know that he helps on such things as a pinched nerve. A pinched nerve usually don't go away when I have been treated for it by a regular MD, but it does go away usually quite quickly after a visit to my chiro. It works for me.

Hi Tj,
I would suggest you to perform certain exercises regularly to prevent this condition from recurring. You should perform –
• Chin Extension Exercises
• Stand straight and rotate your shoulders in both the directions
