The use of the term "Paralytic" caught my eye right away. I have never heard someone use that word when referencing himself.
Inspiration comes and goes but when it arrives, oh how I cherish it.
Using the term "paralytic" reduces verbiage. Otherwise, he might have to say "paralyzed person", or "quadriplegics and paraplegics".
Definition of paralytic 1 : affected with, characterized by, or causing paralysis 2 : of, relating to, or resembling paralysis paralytically ... Origin and Etymology of paralytic Middle English paralytyk, from Anglo-French paralitik, from Latin paralyticus, from Greek paralytikos, from paralyein
If I remember correctly (and I rarely do anymore) we used to use the term paralytic for someone who was completely drunk (this was in England, many years ago). Perhaps it's what morphed into the term "legless" - my favorite description for a drunk. (maybe not so appropriate here, though).

I just had to look this up, jaylock, and you are remembering paralytic correctly.
Here are two quotes from the Tartan Ringers:
He was hard at work becoming paralytic in the Ship tavern when I arrived.
Sidoli's lads found him paralytic drunk busking in George Street, Dutchie doing a political chain dance round his political granite block.
Busking means performing.
