Our family is in a very difficult situation. My adult 31 yr old son is in such severe pain he can only lay on the ground with an ice pack to find some comfort. After trying to find a doctor that didn't think he was just after pain meds, he finally found one that got him an MRI that showed an 8 mm anacroid cyst between S1 and S2. We did some research on these cysts and the symptoms were exactly what my son is having. Our hopes were dashed we went for a neurology exam and were told that "that cyst can not cause pain." To add insult to injury they not could even give us a doctors note for some time off from work. He will try but will probably be fired if he can't do the job. Their reason was "no work excuse or medications unless you need surgery." Our online research shows that lots of doctors perform surgery and procedure to relive the pain of these cysts. The question is how do we find one. This cyst has just about ruined my sons life. Any one out there have any suggestions. We are more than desperate!!
I see now that this injury is not nearly as serious as most of you on this board. I meant no disrespect by posting this problem. However, I have seen this young man change mentally and physically in the last few months for the worse. It is hard to hear your own son say "there is no reason to live anymore". Thank you all for being here.
Pain is one of the worst problems we, or anybody, can have. We don't consider anyone's health complaints as "beneath" our own. You are very welcome to post here. I read about arachnoid problems on a previous forum. The whole medical system is so skewed that it can ruin our self-esteem while simultaneouly ruining our health and/or letting us die. And if your son looses his job, does he also loose his health care?
I'll finish my rant as a Private message, Rbmcaus. Others will have suggestions soon.

Thanks,
rbmcaus.
It took five years and many dollars to find my Arachnoid cyst because in my case, I was paralyzed and they just said the pain would subside but it never did. As for surgery, you will either get success or failure. I had several surgeries and I still have the cyst because it is inside the spinal cord and not removable. So they will drain it when I become symptomatic, which includes increased paralysis. I know the pain must be unbearable for someone who has full sensation like your son.
I highly recommend you get a surgery evaluation by Dr. Scott Falci at Craig Hospital or Dr. Barth Green at Jackson Memorial. They can remove the cyst, resect the cyst, shunt it or drain it to relieve the symptoms.
Welcome Rbmcaus, this is a good place to be, no one here is passing judgement on anyone, we are all here for help, a friendly conversation, a kind ear, or even just to come here and rant. I myself have what your son has , it is not a kind road to go down. If you would like to talk more with me , contact me through the personal messenger on here. Again a big hearty welcome to you.
