Hey, so in the past week I had my accident and now I have a SCI and I'm wheelchair bound. I still have full mobility from the waist up. I have questions about what company I should get my chair from? how long did your nerve pain last? can I have sex (I am female) and how would that work? I understand those are a strange combo of questions but any help would be appreciated.
I would like to welcome you to our forum, I know that we have some very helpful ladies on here who would be able to answer many of your questions and also give you some direction on how to deal with your new future. Again I would just like to give you a big hearty welcome.
I also have an L1 injury that occurred May 26, 2014. You are doing good to already be looking for answers to questions. Took me a lot longer than a week to realize I didn't know what the hell I was going to do. To answer your questions, I am female and have a great sex life with my husband. I am lucky that I have full bladder and bowel function and full sexual function. So don't have any idea about how that works without full function. I have a Tilite Aero Z wheelchair. And I have nerve pain only in the pinky toe of my right foot, which only burns for 24 hours at a time. Sometimes it will be 2 or 3 times a week or sometimes I'll go 2 or 3 weeks with nothing. No idea why it does that. I don't take anything for nerve pain just live with it. I can walk with afo's and fore arm crutches and am still working on making that a more functional part of my life. Good luck with your recovery.
Sorry to hear about your injury! I noticed in your profile you mentioned that you had a 25 feet fall. Ouch! It's good to hear that you're fully mobile from the waist up, that'll greatly help with independence. Do you know if your injury is complete or incomplete?
I don't know about what wheelchair vendors are in your area so hopefully someone else can chime in on that. Nerve pain could go away after you body fully recovers from spinal shock, it could take a year, it could last forever, there's no way to tell unfortunately. As far as sex goes, are you concerned about being able to have children? You can ask more specific questions regarding that area here - www.inspiredsciforum.com/board/14/sexual-dysfunction-women
