Sitting in my basement and never used...Its version 1-and my left hand just isn't good enough to stop once it starts I bought it about 2 months before version 2 w/ bluetooth came out. Here is my question...is there any way of making the SmartDrive 1 useful to me? What do I do with it otherwise?
You can upgrade to the newer version, the MX2. I contacted the company when it came out and they took my MX1 and for a nominal amount they upgraded me to the newer version. The MX2 works pretty good for me and I only have to gently tap to make it turn off. It is worth a try. I didn't upgrade to the 'Push Tracker' feature yet because I don't really want to keep track of my mileage.
I actually had phoned the company in Tennessee I think-they trade in 2500$ off the MX2-but not in Canada-you have to deal with the vendor here. Bought mine off Motion-somehow don't think they'll be as obliging
I had a smart drive 2 but didn't like it at all it was hard to get it to go full speed no matter how hard I pushed then when I got it really going it would hit a little bump and switch itself of.I finished up swapping it for a batec elictric and I just love it.
padd, DJ, I spoke to Ben and Russell at Max Mobility the maker of the SmartDrive. Both suggested that you contact Quart Healthcare www.quarthealthcare.com/ and talk to them about your interest in doing a Trade-In for the MX2. Quart is the distributor in Canada and they are willing to help anyone willing to do a trade-in.
My experience with the MX2 is different from wildweels, regarding gaining speed. As long as the surface is smooth, you can increase speed easily by just pushing a little once. True if you hit a bump, the system will shut down because it is a safety feature of the system. I like being able to turn on the power when I need it especially for hills.
The Batec does give you more flexibility as it gives more ground coverage and allows for uneven surfaces. However, the Batec makes you longer, which is tough when you are in tight spaces such as restaurants and shops.
I have compared the smart drive and the batec for value for money and see the amount of work required to make each of them and feel that the smart drive is a total rip of. As for the batec being awkward in certain areas yes it can be but I just take it of and chain it to something or most shops etc will let you leave it out of the way somewhere.
