3 years ago I damaged my spine leaving me paralyzed from the torso/down. I can use my arms and hands but currently unable to move from the abdomen/down.
Since the injury I wasn't seeing any progress in recovering movement, until just this year. I've been working with a healer in arizona and have just recently got the ability to move my lower back muscles. Though this is a small improvement it feels like a big deal, since I haven't moved these muscles in 3 years! It really is amazing.
I've been doing a combination of massage, exercises, and energy work. I'm still working with the therapist every week and she thinks in the long run I can get more movement back through the whole body
Right now I've been looking for new methods of healing and was looking for others who've experienced any positive changes in their health, whether it's an increase in energy or actual regaining of voluntary movement. What have you tried and how has it benefited you?
Hi Monarch. I'm so glad you're here. And that's so exciting about your improvement. I'm T9 incomplete. I have partial feeling below my bust,...rather like when your leg "goes to sleep". My only (brain directed) movement below that line is in two toes. I can pull them 'down', but not 'up'. So this makes for a rather short exercise session. Lol.
What I've wanted to try, ever since this happened to me (three years ago), is some nutritional supplements from Standard Process. One is Neurotrophin PMG and the other is Neuroplex. I haven't been able to afford them. But I used these products for a different problem many years ago and they worked great.
Being able to use your lower back muscles further down than after your original injury is just wonderful.
Glad to hear that you've had some muscle function return, that's great! What kinda exersizes are you currently doing? Are you doing any assisted standing at all?
Welcome monarch77, it must be exciting for you. Keep up the hard work, thank you for joining our forum I look forward to hearing good news from my friends on here, thank you for sharing. And again welcome.
monarch77, I'm interested to know more about what you call "energy work". Is this like Reike? Do you work with your healer face to face, or is it something that can be done with verbal instructions or thought process? Interesting stuff. Let us know more, please.

I'll look up those supplements they sound interesting.
And thank you. That's great you have that movement in your toes, as difficult as it is to have that injury it sounds like it's something that can be worked with? I found so far what has helped me is awareness where there is movement and expanding it through feeling what is happening in the area, whether it's pain or any other type of energy movement, and I focus on moving as much as possible what I can there for certain periods in the day

I work with her face to face, she helps me with exercises/stretching, and also part of the healing is addressing emotional issues that show up in the process, the mind and body connection is a big part of the healing along with focusing on movement and reversing the pain
I know she has a background in healing through shamanism, the group she's associated with I think developed in Korea and they focus on power through the naval. I think they have different locations in the US, the one I go to is located in sedona Arizona which is where I recently moved

Since I have a small amount of movement in the torso area and recently have gotten my lower back muscles back, I've been working on doing "sit ups". To most people watching it looks as if I'm doing a very tiny crunch since the muscle movement is so small there, it looks almost as if I'm not doing anything, lol. But the point is to feel the area as much as possible and turning the pain into movement. This also helps with a lot of nerve pain issues that I have which make me disassociate from my body a lot...
Other exercises that I've been doing are feeling the toes, and bringing awareness back to them. When I feel pain there I tend to mentally cut off from it but the discomfort is because of a lack of feeling anything positive in the area and disassociation
In the beginning when working with the therapist it was mostly massage/reiki to get me back into my body, since I was so disconnected and distracted by my nerve issues. I still work at being fully present in my body because it's a habit of mine to disconnect
I have a standing frame, maybe I can send you pictures? I was using it in the beginning of my injury but it didn't seem to help much I read it's good for putting pressure on the bones which helps them rebuild and keep their strength, so maybe it was helping with that? Anyway I'm waiting to use it again after I get some movement in my legs because I think I could benefit from it at that point. Right now I've been focused on other forms of movement
monarch77, the standing frame would be excellent to use once in a while to maintain your bone density and it has other great health benefits too. Keep doing what you do and you might just continue to see recovery!
