Thanks for the link, monarch77, I'll check it out. As for the standing frame, it also helps with digestion and calcium absorption, so it is good for the bones and is usually a very worthwhile activity. Keep us updated with the progress.
monarch77 , the standing frame would be excellent to use once in a while to maintain your bone density and it has other great health benefits too. Keep doing what you do and you might just continue to see recovery!
I just wanted to reinforce the importance of the standing frame - recently I broke both legs and the response in the ER was basically "um, you have a spinal cord injury and by now you have osteoporosis so we're not going to treat" - and then the orthopedic surgeon looked at the x-rays and said "no osteoporosis, it's lots of surgery for you!". Which is a much nicer outcome. The Ortho team attributed the zero osteoporosis to regular standing frame use and e-stim. I was right back up (and quite nervous about it, too) as soon as I was allowed weight bearing on both legs. It's worth using - not only for bone protection but also think about how much your core muscles help you sit and stand. You pretty much have to engage them when you're up in the frame. Anyway, best wishes on more progress. And btw - Sedona is very beautiful!

Wow. That is really amazing! Thanks for sharing that
My therapist confirmed that my leg muscles aren't paralyzed anymore, they're atrophied and very weak. Once I get my standing frame fixed I'll try it out again...
When did you visit sedona? I just moved here recently and am loving the location, it is beautiful
I would try Voodoo if I thought it would help. Anything at all, nothing is beyond my imagination when it comes to getting limbs moving again.
I remember post op / post ICU they put me in a ward, a four bed room, and I started getting movement in my toes and feet after a couple of days. The physio people wheeled this machine in that looked like a set of bicycle pedals on the end of a frame and strapped my legs into it, while I was laying on my back on the bed. They attached some electric pads to the backs of my legs and when they pulsed it got my legs muscles going and after a while I was able to pedal this contraption. I was amazed to say the least. The rest of my rehab did not include anything so fancy, just exercising on a tilt-table, walking in a forearm support frame (which I hated) using a walking frame, the four wheel type (which I also hated) and using parallel bars, which are great. Also had a few sessions per week in the hydrotherapy pool the last month I was in hospital, which really got my legs going and helped my balance.
In Thailand I had acupuncture to help the pain, and Thai massage, which both helped. Also went to a Chinese pharmacy which looked like it came straight out of the 1920's and explained to the doctor what was wrong with me pain-wise and had a course of tea prescribed. It tasted disgusting but it did work. Had a Buddhist monk chanting and flicking water over my legs and funnily enough it was not long after this when I ditched the walking stick (three weeks ago) and made great progress in the km's per day I was walking.
As I say, I am up for anything, the more things you try the better the chance you have of finding that one that works for you. Good luck Monarch and keep everyone up to date with any progress you make.
