So I wasn't sure exactly where to put this thread but I thought this might be the most appropriate place. If not feel free to move the thread. I do struggle with pain in my back but it's from the metal that's been put there not spinal pain, so they say. The biggest thing I struggle with is deathly itch just below my sensation line that starts in one spot and go all the way around. I can't scratch it because I don't have sensation there at the skin BUT, big but, I do still have feeling underneath at the muscle level. It's the muscle that's itching. If I move the skin against itself as in kind of, dragging the skin underneath against itself, that will get it to a point. I've talked to my doc and he doesn't know much to do about it. He had be try these big pad things that are supposed to numb the area but it doesn't help that deep. For the past few days I've had an itch in the same exact spot that just won't go away and to be frank, it's really pissing me off. Anyone else experience anything like this and if so, have you found any solutions that work for you? I can drag my back against the back of my chair and that kind of helps but it's kind of hard to do too. The closest thing I've got that helps is this little hand held massage thing that I have my wife drag pretty hard across and up and down on my back to get deep. Problem is if I have her do it too often it's rough on the skin. But it feels soooo good lol.
Edit: So something funny about this. The itch that I've been dealing with for a few days is actually some kind of bug bite lol. I must have gotten it mowing or something. It's interesting because it feels like the other itches but if I put cortisone 10 on it, it seems to really help. I still have the other itches that seems to come up randomly then go all the way around.
Z28derick, hi. My response is more of a 'misery loves company' than a solution. I've had itching on my back, just below the sensation line, but not that goes all the way around like yours does. Mine was bad enough that I brought an old dollar store bamboo back scratcher to bed with me and mail ordered two more plastic ones (along with other starnge stuff from American Surplus). I say this just so you'll know how infuriating the itch was and how determined I was to scratch it.
I think that my worst itching may have been initiated by a tiny ant bite or some such. So high was my suspicion of an ant bite that I quit venturing outside and missed out on some pretty weather and fresh air. Anyway, I hate it when that happens, but Im not having it right now. Sometimes, to allay the sundry annoying discomforts of paraplegia, I take a teaspoon of kratom in a half glass of water. That gives me a few hours of reprieve from my frustrations, though it doesn't "cure" anything. Kratom is legal in all but two States of the US, and can be ordered through the mail, no prescription needed. You don't have your State stated (lol) under your avatar. Maybe you'll give us that for future reference?

There is nothing stranger than SCI! I get a very annoying sensation in my feet and lower legs that feels like im being bitten by a snake ( though ive never been bitten by one to date but its the best way to describe it lol ). I always look down expecting to see some mini beast taking a bite but there never is anything there. Joys of SCI
