Jaylock ... It's so good to hear from you. 123/75 is rather excellent. Perfect blood pressure. "Go lightly". Go lightly indeed my good friend and stay healthy.
Maybe 'go-lightly' is supposed to make you super-skinny, as Holly Golightly in Breakfast at Tiffany's? Wikipedia Breakfast at Tiffany's is a novella by Truman Capote published in 1958. The main character, Holly Golightly, is one of Capote's best-known creations.
It's so good to have you back. Nine days!!! That's awful. And the bites,...they healed?
Back again, and thanks everyone for all the good thoughts. I was doing soooo... well. The doc started me on pyridium in the hospital, then I got an appointment with him last Friday and he gave me samples of Myrbetriq (mirabergron) for Overactive Bladder symptoms, and with instructions to gradually wean off the pyridium (every 12 hours as opposed to 8, then slowly from there). I was actually doing well with gaps of 24 hours in between, the pyridium and the highest BP was 148/89 after a bowel routine the other day. Pretty good. Went to see my PCP yesterday (not the urologist who started me on the meds) and she saw how well I was doing. Told me the Mybetriq takes a while to start working and has a cumulative effect. So far so good. Then this morning I had a great bowel routine. No didgStim except for a quick check at the end, and an easy, successful movement. Back into bed after my shower to get dressed, felt weird, checked my BP: 168/104!!!!!! What the ....! Spray of Nitro and it went down to 154/96. It's now okay. So, when it went up I had some pain and fullness in my rectum from the bowel routine, but didn't have a full bladder. I still now feel (a couple of hours later) as though my rectum's full. Debating on another try but cringing at the thought. I also had a meeting scheduled at 11 today which I was probably stressing over without understanding just how much. The outcome of the meeting (which I had to cancel) will have a big impact on my future employment and finances. I've been preparing for it for days. That's still now up the air. Any thoughts (no, not on the TMI stuff. I can hear all the jokes now you witty buggers!) on possible side effects from this Mybertrig(I hate taking pharmaceuticals but sometimes it seems like the only choice) or the pyridium? Has anyone had similar symptoms or experiences? Any advice? Thanks.
It is so good to see you back and posting. Your blood pressure is like mine, Jaylock. Totally unpredictable and unstable. Bowels and bladder are a constant trigger for dysreflexia. I can understand you cringing at the thought of checking your bowels again. It is a nightmare. On a positive note, you are aware of your symptoms and taking evasive action. And it's great to see you back here and home.
They gave me a little spray bottle when I was released from hospital, said if I ever had an attack of AD to use it and get to a doctor or hospital real fast. I asked them how I would know if it happened to me and they described the symptoms and said - "You will know if it happens, don't worry about that". That was almost two years ago and I have not had to use it, and from what I hear I am lucky. Sorry for all those who suffer from it.
Well, guess where I am AGAIN!. BP would not come down yesterday after three sprays of Nitro, and at 200/120 it was time for the ER again. I was asked to spray twice more in the ER, where we got the BP down to 138/92. The doc felt that was good enough to send me home, with a prescription for Cipro and a diagnosis of UTI. I asked for a second opinion. My husband thought it was hilarious that I'd tell the ER doctor I wanted a second opinion, but I followed it up by explaining that I could get it down that low myself (and had throughout the day) but that in a couple of hours it would back up again and I'd be back in the ER, again. To do what? get it down again and send me home again??? As we were talking (surprise, surprise) my BP shot up again to 215/122, so I've been admitted for observation and put on Cipro. This time I have a twinging pain in my left flank (I do have a gallstone, but don't think that's it) and a green, soft, minimal pooh this morning. Haven't seen my doc yet today, but it's the same guy who cared for me last time, so at least he already has the rundown. They did a CT scan last night, and a urine culture, so just waiting to hear and hoping like hell that someone has some ideas. Mike, I know you said you lived with BP like this for a long time, but did they ever figure out exactly what the triggers were? I'm going nuts. Half the time I don't even feel like leaving the house either because of the AD or just the pain(you know, the weird dull 'pain' that's difficult to pinpoint). At least this time I have my computer and can entertain myself by reading the new "non" religion thread. Hope everyone's well! And please keep sending some good thoughts my way. I could use the extra help.

Yes, you'd know it mickmac, I hope you never have occasion to use the spray. I'm going to post the latest since it keeps me busy at least, and helps me think things through. Just got a visit from the doc. CT scan read by a different radiologist shows a possible cyst on my gallbladder (but he doesn't think that's an issue since all my liver work looks good). Also saw a "nodule" (I've never liked nodules. Not really sure what the hell they are but they don't sound good) in my abdomen, that they might want to take a closer look at. How, I don't know, so I'm not thinking about that one yet. Plan for the day: do the basic stuff first - keep me on Cipro until the culture comes back (okay with that) try to empty my bowels thoroughly this afternoon using a suppository and a water enema. I explained the difficulty with our community and water enemas, so he suggested I try the Peristeen again, thinking that perhaps my earlier 'reaction' to that system was perhaps the urinary issue we found last week, and not the Peristeen at all (because the meds for urethral pain are working). It's worth a try. I'll soon find out if my BP goes up again. Still have the pain on my left flank so should be going for an ultrasound in a while, then the dreaded bowel program. Nothing like a fun time in the hospital. And, of course, the added conversation of a possible colostomy. But I have a nice view.

Had a E.R. doc give me Cipro, a few days later was admitted to a SCI hospital, they told me the Cipro was the wrong thing for the bug I had. He told me that Cipro was most often prescribed, sometimes incorrectly.
