I was finally approved for a power wheelchair last year and ever since I have been struggling to actually get one that fits me, NuMotion, and now one that I can afford, Fletcher's Medical.
My first order was with NuMotion and when they delivered the wheelchair after a hefty copay, I was surprised by its size. After careful review and my wheelchair therapist seeing video of the wheelchair, she concurred that the wheelchair was too big for me. I was told to return it and ask for a copay refund. I am not pointing fingers but my therapist believes they delivered a possible return to me in hopes that I would accept it and allow them to install cushions so that it would fit me.
I was then told to go to Fletcher's Medical and get a new evaluation due to the fact that too much time had elapsed between the last review. I just received the invoice and my share, 20 percent, was the cost for a SmartDrive MX2+. Astounding.
How do insurance companies come up with these balloon "Allowable" amounts?
What am I missing in getting a power wheelchair at a reasonable copay? I am used to copays for manual wheelchairs and now these copays are almost four times that amount. Help!
I got lucky on Craig's list, only cost me 350.00 and came with a roho cushion
I am finding that this might be the way to go. My last wc was bought on Craigslist too, but I was afraid to get a power wc that way due to all the electrical components.
I was wondering if someone who recently received a power wc through insurance had any tips to get the copay down to a reasonable figure.
Inspiration comes and goes but when it arrives, oh how I cherish it.
I have to use a power chair at work, being a florist I need to be able to carry stuff. Plus I already had a chronic neck pain issue. So many different kinds of injections so I just decided to go mostly the power chair if I am going to someone else's how I go in the manual. Insurance only covered the manual.I at first hated being out in public in the power chair, but kinda felt screw these people who give you the look. I am doing what works for me and my body. I have bought 2 off Craig's list, same chair, got one just for a back up chair. Paid 300. And 350. For the other .lot cheaper than a copay. I keep a ebay search open for the same chair. I like the chair and my son could if need be take it apart just for parts.
