I have never had shingles by until I developed SCI and I am wondering if anyone else suffers from this. I do not think for one minute that it is associated directly to SCI but immunity seems to be an issue for many of us and this with stress is a perfect combination for developing some annoying illnesses.
I have been really ill with shingles this past week and the pain is crazy, I have a high pain threshold but this is almost unbearable. This time it has affected the cranial nerves, and none of my pain meds are doing anything at all.
It is so frustrating because it actually stops me in right in my tracks, I guess the good thing is that it has given me the opportunity to come and post on the forum and get to know new members!

Good to have you posting again. I just read a article about shingles recurring after having them once . My wife had a mild case a couple years ago, they gave her some stuff called acyclovir 800mg, 5x a day. She caught them early. They really...really suck Lara, sorry your having to deal with them.
Just thought to add loose clothing or none at all.
My sympathy to you Lara. I only know shingles by reputation but that drove me to ask for the inoculation against it. Probably too late for you but others take note.
Lαrα, So sorry for all the pain you are experiencing. I had three friends who were affected by Shingles and each one took different drugs. One person even left her home because she was told that a colder climate would give her more comfort; she lived in Phoenix but did a temporary relocation to Denver.
Sorry to hear you're going through this, Lαrα, I wish I had some alternative remedies to offer, but I don't. Perhaps Vintage will chime in with one of her wonderful ideas. I hope this resolves for you soon.
Thankyou everyone for your kind thoughts... jaylock , I do have a 'northern' accent but not strong really and vintage may have done kilg0retr0ut , I am enjoying posting again, very much so.
tetra , my mom mentioned the vaccination to me today but I am sure that my doctor said it was not likely to help me as I already have the virus in my system. califanna , there are drugs that I could have taken but it has to be within 48 hours of developing Shingles and unfortunately I was not aware that I had them at that early point.

The Mayo Clinic site says:
"The shingles vaccine (Zostavax) is recommended for adults age 60 and older, whether they've already had shingles or not."

Recurrent shingles implies a problem with T cell immunity. Immunisation is unlikely to be significantly effective but is unlikely to do any harm either. Early antiviral therapy such as aciclovir is probably best approach assuming general blood tests have been normal, especially looking at full blood count and immunology

Hey Lara. I TOTALLY understand as also never had shingles until my SCI. it is incredibly painful and causes me to have AD. truly the only way to treat it appears to be on high doses of acyclovir and to rest and try and avoid stress. Know it’s really tough tho and pain in general is a whole different topic. Hope this helps u a little 🌻🌻⭐️⭐️🌸🌸🌷🌷
