I saw a link to a blog about Neurontin and Lyrica based on another post dated 2015. I was not aware of how either drug affected the brain and I was never told by my pharmacist or physician. This may not be surprising to you all but it was to me. So I am posting so you can read for yourselves.
Until I find a alternative I'll continue to use Lyrica. If I had a choice I'd be without meds all together, but I enjoy being able to function.
I noticed that medical marijuana is available in your state. Have you contemplated using marijuana (pills, edibles, tinctures) as an alternative to Lyrica?

I've tried, well not tinctures, although it helps it doesn't do anything for the crazy shocks I get. I still get them, not as frequent or as severe with the Lyrica. I experience many off the side effects that come with the Lyrica. I've tried weaning myself off it numerous times, always back to the shocks. I really don't see any option.
An herbal site recommends these. www.everydayhealth.com/pain-management/natural-pain-remedies.aspx "The American Pain Foundation also lists these herbs for pain management: * Ginseng for fibromyalgia. * Kava Kava for tension headaches and neuropathic pain. * St. John's Wort for sciatica, arthritis, and neuropathic pain. * Valerian root for spasms and muscle cramps."
I know the last three well. Go real easy on the Kava Kava if you try it. An overdose of that one is not fun. St. John's Wort is a friendly little herb that mellows you out. But stay out of the sun on the day you take it, because you will sunburn easily while taking it. Valerian Root will calm your nerves, but it is a stinky little herb. Your sweat will smell like Valerian Root. I have no delusions that you will try these herbs, Kilgoretrout,...just offering 'on principle'.
P.S. Order herbs as loose powders from a trustworthy herbal store. Buying herbs that have been processed isn't the same. Even getting them in capsules means you may be injesting a "flow agent', which is damaging to your health.
Thanks, Califanna, for this very useful warning link.
I was prescribed Lyrica earlier this year and filled the prescription, but it still sits on my shelf untouched. After reading about the terrible long-term effects on Apparelyzed, I couldn't bring myself to take it. And now this.
As an alternative, I'm scheduled for a radiofrequency ablation @l5-S1 in December. Two trials with anaesthetic to locate the specific site were successful, so fingers crossed for this one.
Am also still experimenting with weed, but really dislike inhaling the hot vapor. Looking into edibles. Any good brownie recipes out there?

Please let us know how the radiofrequency ablation goes. I know of three people who had it done, not SCI injured, and all got relief.

Will do. It's not until early December, but will report afterwards. So glad to hear that you know a few people who have been helped by this procedure.
I’d be interested too. I’m on the NHS waiting list for RF ablation in my knee (referred neuro pain from the hip) They tried arthroscopic ablation but it didnt work. Apparently they cant target as well artroscopically...

Oh, and I weaned myself off Lyrica two years ago. I was only on 150mg a day (75mg x2. Daily) for three years but its left me with permanent heart damage! I now have episodes of SVT, esp after eating, and have to take meds for that instead. Lyrica is evil!

My aide is on Lyrica-type medications. I'll show this to her.

I had C2-C6 partial ablation. It works but I suffered extreme fatigue after for months. Not sure if autoimmune or location or.... In one area it felt like I was being stung or itched. The fatigue is why they won't do it again. So check out pubmed for autoimmune and RFA.
